El MarielSearch: Intro by: Pitbull Release Date October 31, 2006 I came across Pitbull's 2004 album M.I.A.M.I. by accident because I was really looking for something else, but I listened to it and I was impressed. But his latest album, El Mariel, is even better. Keep in mind, though; despite the reggaeton movement that has taken place over the past two years or so, Pitbull is simply a "standard" rap artist that has some Latin-inspired beats (so if you think this is a bad reggaeton album, check yo'self). But there are plenty of highlights, like "Jealouso", "Rock Bottom" and "Come See Me". Even the song with Wyclef ("Jungle Fever") works. Pit also does a good job when he gets introspective on us. Totale's Turns (It's Now or Never)Search: Intro by: The Fall Release Date September 14, 2004 The Fall and their leader were into drugs at this time, and it shows. This music is extremely wigged-out. In places ("Cary Grant's Wedding", "Fiery Jack", "Spectre vs. Rector") this music needs no justification, it is perfect and unique. In other places, it's less impressive and the low-fidelity recording will annoy you to death. It doesn't get stranger or more abrasive than this album. Mark Smith was following his wigged-out, low-fidelity muse. For a Fall fan this is indeed a must-have item as the songs I named above do not sound like this anywhere else. The band went on to coalesce into something a bit more of this earth on the follow-up LP "Groteque". |

Adam and EveSearch: Intro by: Catherine Wheel Release Date November 01, 1997 I even rebought this recently, as I had loaned it out, never got it back, and found myself badly missing it. It's worth having. But by comparison with the rest of their catalog, it ranks the lowest in my opinion. Why? Some of the songs meander (like "Broken Nose", which starts out promising but has an annoying limp chorus). Some of the lyrics are great--and some just make no damn sense, at least to me. I have a real problem with how this album sounds, as well; whether I'm listening at home on my decent stereo, my computer or in my car, the album has a curious flat quality (esp. compared to their others). Une Saison VoleeSearch: Intro by: Francoiz Breut Release Date March 21, 2005 This a wonderful French artist whose songs are hauntingly beautiful, but with a modern edge. Good instrumentation and passionate lyrics (with a sensitive vocal performance) makes for music that really creeps into your soul. Some of the songs are stripped right down to the bare bones, which makes them all the more powerful. This album will leave you wanting more, and perhaps open you up to a whole new world of possibilities. This lady is a real discovery - chic, passionate and lyrical. In fact, all that is French.
