Jesse Colin Young turned out several solo albums after his days with the Youngbloods, most of which were forgettable. "The Highway is for Heroes" is an exception, an excellent album presenting his sweet voice at its best. "Sweetwater" is a close second, including a fine rendition of "Darkness, Darkness." Buy these two disks, and you will have the best of JCY.

This a wonderful French artist whose songs are hauntingly beautiful, but with a modern edge. Good instrumentation and passionate lyrics (with a sensitive vocal performance) makes for music that really creeps into your soul. Some of the songs are stripped right down to the bare bones, which makes them all the more powerful. This album will leave you wanting more, and perhaps open you up to a whole new world of possibilities. This lady is a real discovery - chic, passionate and lyrical. In fact, all that is French. Best track is 'Over All'. Fantastique!

A must have for any Jonah fan...or anyone really. In my opinion, Jonah Matranga is one of the most talented singer/songwriter/entertainers alive today. While there's nothing quite like being there when Jonah stops abruptly in the middle of a song to share the thought that just popped into his head, this collection does manage to capture the essence of what his shows are all about: spontaneity, interaction, discussion, and most importantly sharing music and having fun. Many artists release live albums, but it's nice to see one from one of the truly great live artists of our time. I've never seen anyone else whose live performances are so consistently solid and unique.

I even rebought this recently, as I had loaned it out, never got it back, and found myself badly missing it. It's worth having. But by comparison with the rest of their catalog, it ranks the lowest in my opinion.
Why? Some of the songs meander (like "Broken Nose", which starts out promising but has an annoying limp chorus). Some of the lyrics are great--and some just make no damn sense, at least to me. I have a real problem with how this album sounds, as well; whether I'm listening at home on my decent stereo, my computer or in my car, the album has a curious flat quality (esp. compared to their others). It marrs a lot of the songs (witness a great song like "Delicious" ruined by said production, buried in total NOISE and truly lacking CW's ... Read More:

I didn't find out about Jackie Greene until his latest CD, Giving Up The Ghost, came out a couple of months ago. However I liked it so much that I was excited to see that he had some earlier CDs. After listening to samples from all of them, I decided that American Myth was the one that I wanted to buy next. This is an interesting CD in Greene's catalog because it is the transition CD between his early recordings on Dig Records and his latest CD which is on 429 Records. American Myth is his only recording on the Verve Forecast label, and it has a distinctive sound. The Dig recordings have a much more raw feel to them while Giving Up The Ghost is very polished. American Myth bridges the two extremes, and gives a hint of the future greatness.
