The film director's recreation of Victorian England, as seen in the Savoy Theatre (front and backstage) and in the respective studies of Gilbert and Sullivan, from which their works of genius issued, constitutes artistry worthy of identification as a National Treasure. "The Dream of the Ancient Ones" was pianist/composer Craig Urquhart's second solo piano recording, and he accurately calls it "an epic." Somewhat "bigger" and more powerful than Urquhart's other recordings, "Ancient Ones" reveals another facet of his playing and composing styles. The nine tracks are grouped into three movements, each with an introductory Incantation, and two dreams. The work as a whole was designed as a musical and mythical approximation of a classic religious "triptych" painting, with two sides opening to the third. "The Ancient Ones" are the ancestors from long ago who brought knowledge to civilization over the centuries and have special spiritual powers. Laurel's Tango Etudes are by far the best version I've heard. Nobody plays these with as much passion and fire as she does. This cd is filled with deleted takes and audio gems. The film introduces the audience into the comic mind with 100 comedians.


This CD is filthy funny and improvisational. This film is a course in comedy 101 with some of the best teachers of the art...the CD is comedy 102. It takes oiff where the film ended

if you are prudish of your humor, miss this CD at all costs. However, if you are open to versions and versions of a classic takes and insightfull education into telling a joke...this CD is extra credit to the film.
