This is the third mini-CD from Tracy Grammer and Jim Henry (the second ONE HORSE TOWN was helmed by Jim Henry and released under his name). These mini-CDs are short and lightly produced. I really enjoy the scaled down productions as they remind me of the live versions of these songs (which were of course normally performed with Dave Carter, and after his death Donny Wright and later Jim Henry).
It includes two Dave Carter songs. GYSPY ROSE is a stripped down version of the song first released on FLOWER OF AVALON whereas LORD OF THE BUFFALO was previously unreleased. Both are good songs and worth the price of the CD.
Surprisingly what makes this CD stand out is that Grammer (once again) takes a classic Neil Diamond ... Read More:

any true Jackson Browne fan can shoot holes in any best-of package. No one set could be perfect for every fan. The best of disc is a fair representation of his work including a bit too much of the 80s stuff. Even so, it helps to remind what a great song "in the shape of a heart" really was. Truth be known, a great best of J.B. could be a copy of Late for the Sky. What made me buy this set was the live stuff. For a dancer and before the deluge are worth the price. What we need is a 3 disc set of live J.B. A poet, a true star...

Few songwriters distill the essence of human emotion and existential question in such purity as Jackson Browne. Each time I listen to his music is like reconnecting with an old lover: time stands still, regrets unfold and sweet memories resurface. Thanks for the music, Jackson!

After five fantastic albums in the 1970's, Jackson Browne stumbled a bit when the 1980's came around. "Hold Out" was passable, but underwhelming. "Lawyers in Love" was better, and was Browne's first album to be somewhat political in tone. It wasn't until "Lives in the Balance", though, that Jackson really got back into the swing of things. Even more political than "Lawyers...", "Lives in the Balance" was a criticism of Reagan-era foreign policies, and while you'd think it would be dated because of this, it instead remains frighteningly up-to-date, especially in these troubled times.
The record kicks off with "For America", in which Browne regrets having previously worried about himself and his troubles while ignoring the real problems in the ... Read More:
