I don't know how this happens, as yet another big time and big name artist seemingly 'bites the dust'. Every year, a particular label named Penitentiary manages to steer artists (or their produces) into releasing artists for the label, despite allllll the various warning signs not to. To date, just in my memory, the label has: Most heinously released a rather generic sounding Burning Fire album from Sizzla Kalonji which was a complete waste of time for fans as it contained 14 tracks which had previously been released on various albums (If I recall correctly it was from the Taking Over and Jah Knows Best Albums); of course they identified that problem and 'corrected' it by re-releasing the album a few months later, this time with 3-4 songs never ... I bought this compilation because I was looking for L.L.'s greatest hits and stumbled on this collection. It's all THAT and then some!!!!! I absolutely screamed when I saw Oran Juice Jones! We sung that to school everyone morning and threw back phrases from the song to the brothers that were whack! When I play it, my daughter just looks at me and shakes her head.
This generation don't know that "hip-hop" is a state of mind and it is not defined by "bling" or brand names. We were just into the music. (even though I did have some big square earrings M.C. Lyte was rocking in the "Paperthin" video!)

The earlier works of the Black Keys were fantastic. I really didn't know what to expect when I was picking up Attack & Release. After hearing that the Black Keys would be working with Danger Mouse, I was a little worried. Was the Black Keys raw style of blues rock coming to an end?
After listening to this album multiple times I grew to appreciate the new direction the Black Keys were going. In my opinion this album is near flawless. While Danger Mouse's touch is noticed, it is not overbearing. Attack & Release not only surpassed my expectation but now I am excited to hear their next release. The Black Keys followed a artistic progression and nailed it.
