This masterpiece has been beautifully recorded. Macal is an incredible conductor that can change color with the slight of hand. I was introduced to this piece personally through performance. After listening to the recording, the attention to detail by soloists, symphony players and the Westminster Symphonic Choir simply moved me to tears. This is by far the best recording done of this work.

This CD is great. If you like old ragtime music, it will have you up dancing and clapping. John Arpin plays these songs with little improvisation, so they sound like you expect them to. I just ordered "My Favorite Requests" CD by John Arpin, which is a little more "mellow." He is an excellent and versatile pianist and also has classical CD's available.

These days, there are just so many classic acts of the Motown era that've been all but forgotten, in favor of soul wannabe acts like Ciara, Ashanti, and Ruben Studdard from American Idol that just don't have the appeal of the classic days of soul that were just astonishing. That happened long ago, especially with Smokey Robinson. Even though he hasn't scored a hit record in years, the soulfulness he has made for so many eras of lovers has not lost its edge. With the passing of time, people tend to forget that in the years before The Temptations, the Supremes, & the Four Tops were even heard of, THE MIRACLES reigned as the number one MOTOWN group.Their hits actually BUILT THE LABEL, and their importance can not be overstated (although fans of some of the aforementioned groups try to UNDERSTATE IT from time to time). Kudos to Motown for rereleasing the Jackson 5 2fers that originally surfaced in 1986. With the 2001 rerelease of this series, it is now possible to got back and collect the Jackson 5's early material. This is a great opportunity to own the first two Motown LP's that the Jackson 5 recorded and have them both on one disc. The price is great even without the bonus tracks. Not only do you get the hits, I Want You Back, The Love You Save, and ABC, but you get the brothers take on such Motown classics as, Never Had A Dream Come True, My Cheri Amour, & (I Know)I'm Losing You. Now that I started with this one, I have found myself collecting all the 2fers. Enjoy

I 'll make this a brief review.This anthology is outstanding.There are only four artists that I consider to be the epitome of songwriters;Oscar Brown Jr.,Jon Hendricks,Curtis Mayfield,and last,but in no way least,William "Smokie" Robinson.I just regret that this superb collection didn't include two songs;Here I Go Again, and Fork In The Road. Other than that, this collection represents some of the finest work Smokie and the Miracles have done. A must for any Miracles fan!
