Thirteen CitiesSearch: Guilty by: Richmond Fontaine Release Date May 22, 2007 The Fitzgerald was a discovery by pure chance that just blew me away, and continues to do so to this very day. It's power has never diminshed for me, each song more akin to a short story ala Carver than a rock song. To me that album was the pure embodiment of what Springsteen was attempting with his Nebraska-esque albums, buty it just put him to shame. It was never, ever going to be a hit in any sensxe other than critical, as it was pretty tough medecine. The devil is in the details, and in a sense that is a perfect summation of what I ove about Ricmond Fontaine's/Will Vlauntin's work. The Thieving Magpie (Chandos Opera in English)Search: Guilty by: Philharmonia Orchestra Release Date July 22, 2003 First off, this is my first experience with this particular opera so I have no prior bias as to the tempi and clarity of the score to compare with. I found the tempi in general to be fantastic, but I will admit that I am an up-tempo junkie so this recording suites my tastes just fine. That's not to say that there is no range from slow to moderate to fast but at least the tempi in this production avoids middle-ground heavy mush which is the worst place for an Italian opera to languish in. I will admit that there are a few points here and there where the vocalists cannot keep pace with the orchestration but that hardly warrants a failing grade.
