On the heels of the discovery of two genuine Bennett sleepers, "On Holiday" and "The Playground," I was hoping to find more of the same with this relssue of a 1975 date. Indeed, Bennett is in full and strong voice, and the song selection is inspired. Still, the recording, perhaps unavoidably, shows its age (i.e. the 70s).
Listening to this session makes one appreciate all the more the two meetings between Tony Bennett and Bill Evans (how could such recordings occur in the 1970s?). By contrast, "Life Is Beautiful," though no doubt a musical oasis at the time, sounds broad and pushing. Despite the stellar quality of the voice, the added reverb hits the listener from the first note; the arrangements are cabaret "stock," with tempos ... Read More:

This compilation covers about the whole range of Bennett. The first disk is the typical NYC big orchestra with too much reverb on Tony faire. None-the-less enjoyable. The bulk of material came from a 1975 album. The 2nd CD is a more intimate NYC studio session with the Ruby Braff/George Barnes Quartet. Very nice. The 3rd CD and the 1st half of the 4th CD is the Bill Evans/Tony - Together Again album. It includes all the original cuts plus a couple of alternates of each cut. Sublime is the best way to describe these CD. The mastering is bit better on this CD than earlier releases. The last half of the 4h CD is sort of strange yet fun date Tony had in Buffalo. Buffalo? Bennett is backed by Marian and Jimmy McPartland and their band. The rhythm section ... Read More:

I really bought it because I wanted a professional backing track for Ever Ever After and after listening to a couple other songs, I have come to really enjoy it! A must for any Karaoke/Carrie fan!

This cd is unbelievable and deserves all the kudos and awards it has received. Carrie Underwood's first cd was a powerhouse seller and also garnered her critical acclaim and tons of awards. But as with any artist it is the second release that showcases their creativity and true talent.
This cd far surpasses the first, which I loved, in song selection, vocal performance and interpretation and Carrie proves herself a true unique talent with her own special gifts.
I can put this cd in my player and let it run over and over for there is no filler here for me. But there are certainly some highlights. ALL AMERICAN GIRL allows Carrie to hit some notes never heard before. Her interpretation of I TOLD YOU SO is heartfelt and very ... Read More:

A lucky trip in the used bin brought this greatest hits album to my collection. The Depressions were a mid to late 70's punk outfit from Brighton who probably deserved a little more exposure than they got-at least stateside. It won't change your life, but it goes a long way to remind you why you got into this music in the first place. From the goofy, witty lines in the first song "Screw Ya" on through this collection, you know you're back in a different era. Particular highlights are "Basement Daze" and "Chains and Leather". I'm no musician, but the song construction definitely fills those old school requirements for guitar riffs and memorable choruses. If you're feeling nostalgic and you're an early English punk ... hey this cd is pretty awesome. this is also a new release but this time with new artwork and from fat wreck. sounds a lot different than newer no use for a name stuff. personally i like the newer stuff better. tony sly sounds different in this one. but still is a really good album. i guess you could call this hardcore but it isn't teeth-grinding in your face hardcore. the music isn't hardcore, it's more like the subject matter. tracks 1 and 3, for example. anyway, it isn't much like newer stuff from these guys but still decent.

I love Edwin McCain and this album really gives them a chance to branch out from their ballads that have been so popular from the last albums. Even so I think that the best song is Write Me a Song, a ballad in the I'll Be tradition, complete with a very memorable chorus. This album is refreshing with all of it's experimental music styles that have not been the norm. Rock, to ballads, to Gosple. I'm always happy to hear new stuff by Edwin McCain, and I can't wait for their new live album.
