Talking 'Bout SoulSearch: Don t you know pt 2 by: Little Richard Release Date January 26, 2001 Great packaging, impressive liner notes [with new background info. and rare photos], and above average sound do not change the fact that for LR collectors it's the same ol' same ol' Vee Jay cuts - *still* no stereo on the re-recordings, *still* no prev. unreleased stuff, etc. But it's a fine place for a new LR fan or Rock n Soul historian to start: despite some curious jazz-based arranging and occasional voice problems, Penniman's '64 and '65 tracks have withstood the test of time and in fact contain sounds every bit as important as the ones he made for Specialty '55 to '57 and early '64. The Second ComingSearch: Don t you know pt 2 by: Little Richard Release Date July 01, 1999 Another collection of Little Richard's Vee Jay records, with exactly one semi-rarity, if you will: the original single B-side of his 1965 hit, "I Don't Know What You've Got (But It's Got Me)" - the song is usually presented as an extended "Part One". The listed alternate take of "Dance What You Wanna" is pressed as the familiar B-side of 1965 Vee Jay single. The set does come with a nice booklet with some interesting session details. If you really are interested in Richard's '72 album of the same name ("Second Coming"), check it out as part of a Rhino Handmade boxed-set on LR's Reprise years. (Far from his best on that label).
