Yes - this is more like it! the first in the series was a collection of interesting jazzy samba but nothing particularly noteworthy other than obscurity - this one is much better. It's a nice fun collection of sexy, sinewy jazzy samba - some obscure, some well know but all cool and fun as samba can be. The only oddity is the poorly recorded version of "Desafinado" - must be some cheap license to get a slightly garbled bootleg sounding version but since you should not only own Jo?o Gilberto CD's/Lp's or have it on almost any of the other collection - no biggie.

This collection lives up to the name of the series and the cover :-)

.............never heard of Karryn Allison until just now? I am nearly 60 years old and love love love "musica brasileira" from almost anyone who can pull off a good recording. This CD is just amazing, and I've heard lots of artists try to record these songs.
I spent 2 years in Brasil many years ago and loved what I heard so have always loved the music. Karryn has a great voice and I am going to go seek out other things she has done.

Someone may think that a double CD of Julie London songs is too much of a good thing, but really it's just about right. She is almost a genre of her own, perhaps the only female "crooner" and her cool, crisp delivery transports the listener and adds something to these songs, most of them very well known in their own right. As beautiful as talented, she was very much a "product" of her era, and enticing to us that came later.

The four cds Euphoria put out in recent years to make justice of Howard Roberts reputation as the perfect jazz guitarist are in my opinion all essential. Infact you absolutly can't say which is the best, they all form a complete picture of one of the truly greatest Jazz guitarist ever and I really suggest you the purchase of the complete opera (eight records on four discs: 1 Colour him funky-HR is a dirty guitar player, 2 Jaunty Jolly-Guilty 3Whatever's fair-Alltime instrumental hits 4 Goodies-Something Cookin'). Considering that her mother is the gifted swing singer, Betty Johnson,
it is perhaps not entirely surprising that Lydia Gray displays the
extraordinary talent she demonstrates here. Most of the songs are
popular melodies penned by Antonio Carlos Jobim, arranged beautifully by
guitarist Ed Eastridge, and sung by Gray in a distinctly dry voice with
a slightly behind the beat delivery. She sings most of the pieces in
English, with little, if no improvisation, but she infuses almost every
tune with bittersweet inflections that make her interpretations so
