This is one of the most annoying world music albums out there. Next to the Rough Guide to Yodel,it's custom-made to drive away unwanted guests,solicitors,and relatives overstaying their welcomes. Putumayo had an interesting concept:cover songs from around the world. As a concept album,it works in theory. In practice,it doesn't do so well. There are a few highlights-but they are few and far between. The album works as novelty,like the "Annoying Music Show" compilations,or the Leonard Nimoy/William Shatner album.

Ladysmith Black Mambazo's "Ain't no sunshine" and "People get ready" are wonderful,and sound like gospel songs. Les Go's cover of Hall&Oates is given an Afropop vibe. Toure Kunda shows the African roots of a Peter Gabriel ... Read More:

I saw the Broadway show, Jersey Boys this summer and was blown away by the music. I knew I had to have the score for myself I purchased the CD from Amazon for less than 1/2 the price of the same purchase at the theater. I just love this music and am enjoying it now at home.

Yannick was just becoming a hit when I spent last summer in France. His single "Ces Soirees La" was playing in practically every boutique I went into, and his music video was always on tv. It caught my attention instantly because it is a true party/dance song. It is in French, of course, but have no fear if you don't speak French cuz you'll love it anyway. I could play it over and over again with the volume way up and never get tired of it. I totally suggest that you check it out cuz it's such a great song. Even though it is a rap song, it is acctually good rap that is catchy and that you can dance to. It's a modernized version of the song "Cette annee la", which has the same tune although it isn't rap.
