Though it premiered in March of 1944, "A Child of our Time" remains thought provoking in its social-philosophic message some sixty years later. The 1992 recording on Chandos, captures its spirit and intensity. Well, worth listening to. The work was performed this summer (2005) at the Berkshire Choral Festival.
Release Date June 02, 1998
"Kiss Me, Kate" is a masterfully written show. The interplay between the stage and backstage is superb. The variety of music, from the near-classical "Were Thine That Special Face," to the comic "Brush Up Your Shakespeare," with the more traditional Broadway sound of "Wunderbar," holds the listener's interest throughout.
But, about this recording--
Who else but Alfred Drake could carry the role of Fred Graham? Patricia Morrison, properly shrewish as Lilli. The flirty voice of Lisa Kirk. Even Harold Lang, who is not the greatest singer ever to hit Broadway.
Wonderfully written, wonderfully performed, wonderfully recorded and remastered!

....but a little Eddie goes a long way. If you're even reading Eddie Bo reviews, the odds are that you want to own this because you're a NO R+B fanatic.
If you're looking to just go further afield from Professor Longhair, I prefer Chris Kenner's rawer sound.

Jean began her recording career in the early fifties and had country hits up to the mid-seventies - not as many or as big as she deserved, but she certainly made her mark. Jean's biggest hits during the period covered by this box of five CD's (up to 1964) included A dear John letter (a #1 duet with Ferlin Husky), Forgive me John (a reply to the previous hit, also with Ferlin), A satisfied mind, Beautiful lies and Second fiddle to an old guitar. All other hits - indeed everything Jean recorded up to the end of 1964 - can also be found here.
During this period, Jean was often overshadowed by two other country queens, Kitty and Patsy, but Jean played an important role in gaining recognition for female singers of country music. Jean often sang ... Read More:
