Underwhelming. I came away thinking the musicians all were somehow stateless persons. They read their parts for certain, but without much 'spirit.' Uniformly lacking - auspiciously so.
If nothing else, a National anthem ought to raise goosebumps, for it is the music of the land, itself. Some (e.g.: the EU anthem by Beethoven and the anthem of Hungary or Japan's song) seem to be composed in such a way as to enable thought; others seem to engender competition and manliness - Brazil's anthem - or Ireland's or the anthem of Italy; still others sound almost mystical and transcendant; as does (to me, at least) the beguiling, beautiful anthem of the Marshall Islands. great instrumental work that bears the best female brazilian voices. 3 na massa is a project driven by nação zumbi and instituto musicians (dengue, pupilo and rica amabis). it combines the best contemporary composeres in brazilian pop scene - most of them come from the state of pernambuco like lirinha, junio barreto, jorge du peixe and rodrigo amarante - with the voices of the best contemporary female voices - like ceu, thalma de freitas and roberta sá. after all, everything is sung in portuguese - nothing could be more sofisticated and sensual.

most times i like my music soulful or jazzy or sometimes completely gutter!
this album combines jus about everything i love about people who make good music...
breakin it down into its basic components, i say this disc is 50% some coltrane (body and soul), 40% some k.r.s.-one (ghetto music), 10% some p-funk (chocolate city) and some extra-secret-percentages of james brown/maceo parker and public enemy!
(mos def, jaguar wright and common DO make appearances on this!)...

i omost never completely tell folks that they should buy one cd or another, but all conscious minded people should own this!

this will be enjoyed in private moments or at social gatherings equally (depending on the quality of people you roll with!)....

Many years ago, I found a tape in the discount bin by the artist Ofra Haza. It was Desert Wind. I had never heard of her but I was intrigued by the cover and frankly, the price. I bought it hoping that it would atleast be interesting and new. I was not disappointed. Ofra's voice blew me away. I had never heard anything like it before and have not since. Desert Wind is still, for me, her best album. Her voice soars in I Want To Fly and is haunting in Kaddish. She was really my first encounter with Middle Eastern music and I have never forgotten how utterly moved I was by her beautiful voice.
