This CD of the Palast Orchester wanders somewhat away from the style that they have used in more famous nostalgic recordings. While all the songs are sung in English (and well-done, too!), the style is really too modern for this orchestra, and I think it hurts the overall effect. Plus, I don't know where the 'super' is in "Super Hits"? The songs mostly seem to be rather pedestrian and lack the flavor of previous ventures. This CD is okay, but nothing special. This is volume number 2; I'd like to know what's on volume number 1.

I think Samsara is one of the best film ever made. In my opinion, a good movie is one that teach you something, helps your human beeing in evolution, helps you THINKING! And Samsara have a lot of teachings! It is not only about buddhism, it is about life, about the choices we have to make, and more than that, about the way we deal with the effects of our choices. It is always about the big choice : the hard way or the easy way, buth sometimes, it is difficult to know what is good or what is bad for your beeing. Are you strong enough to choose the hard way? No? Than find a way to get stronger, because if you dont do that, samsara (the cycle of reincarnations)is waiting for you!

most times i like my music soulful or jazzy or sometimes completely gutter!
this album combines jus about everything i love about people who make good music...
breakin it down into its basic components, i say this disc is 50% some coltrane (body and soul), 40% some k.r.s.-one (ghetto music), 10% some p-funk (chocolate city) and some extra-secret-percentages of james brown/maceo parker and public enemy!
(mos def, jaguar wright and common DO make appearances on this!)...

i omost never completely tell folks that they should buy one cd or another, but all conscious minded people should own this!

this will be enjoyed in private moments or at social gatherings equally (depending on the quality of people you roll with!)....

Gigi

If like me you aren't initiated much into world music this is a great introduction. Gigi has a great voice and I listened to this disk many times already. She always has great names playing with her on the instruments and uses ideas from her Ethiopian background to color her music. Wonderful.

Le Paris de Montand

This is an interesting little record and one of my favourites. Ok: La vie en rose, Les feuilles mortes, Mon manége a moi, Sous le ciel de Paris... Sounds very familiar and safe. These are classics, so many times done. But here they are really beautifully sung, Montand's voice is so close to perfection as it can be: soft but strong, moving lightly and surely, a true professional and still very sincere.

There are at least two very good collections on Amazon, '36 titres' and live recording from Olympia 1981, but both collections - as well as most collections! - lack some highlights of Montand's career. C'est si bon, the alluring, very sexy song as done by Montand is here, so are the beautiful ballads Le chevalier de Paris, L'ame des poètes and Sa jeunesse. ... Read More:

Ozomatli has always been touted as one of the best bands to see live. If you haven't seen ozomatli live, please make sure you mark them on your calender when they hit your town soon. You will not be dissapointed, and in fact, youll still feel good, and inspired days after the show.
The Ozomatli: Live at the Fillmore DVD does a great job of capturing this highly talented band as best as can be done, without actually being there dancing, sweating and laughing in person. From the beautiful spanish style accoustic guitar by Raul Pacheco to the silly erotic dancing of "Sheff" the band's trombone player. Desert Wind

Many years ago, I found a tape in the discount bin by the artist Ofra Haza. It was Desert Wind. I had never heard of her but I was intrigued by the cover and frankly, the price. I bought it hoping that it would atleast be interesting and new. I was not disappointed. Ofra's voice blew me away. I had never heard anything like it before and have not since. Desert Wind is still, for me, her best album. Her voice soars in I Want To Fly and is haunting in Kaddish. She was really my first encounter with Middle Eastern music and I have never forgotten how utterly moved I was by her beautiful voice.
