I was introduced to Nitin through my cousin who lives in England. She saw him live in London and raved about it...so off I went in search of this artist. He was difficult to find; nonetheless I was determined. I am one of those people who love music from almost all genres, cultures and corners of the globe. In other words, I am not a radio-pop saccharine sweet loving music listener. I look for music that proposes thought (although I do believe even top 40 has its place) If you are looking for an album/artist that resonates emotion, along with a powerful subtlety check Nitin Sawhney out. You won't be disappointed.

This is an astounding recording. After wearing out at least 2 vinyl copies in the 70's, I was absolutely ecstatic finding this released on CD. But then again, I have always included Airto in my top 2 or 3 muscians of all time .. along with Hendrix. Go figure.

With some of Airto's usual suspects including Hugo Fatturuso on keyboards, David Amaro on guitar, the ever beautiful and magicical Flora Purim, and Raul de Soza on trombone settling in with American musicians like Herbie H of course, John Heard and John Williams playing their asses off on bass, and even Louis Johnson from Brother's Johnson playin' slap .. think he might have been only 19 or 20 years old at the time .. topped off with the true musical genius of Egberto Gismonti on ... If you fancy a live bluegrass flatpicking extravaganza I recommend this little gem over the recent Watson/Scruggs/Skaggs release. Not that it's purely bluegrass, what with Beppe Gambetta mixing in some reworkings of Italian folk tunes to great effect. Anyone who knows anything about modern bluegrass should know Dan Crary's stuff. The more unfamiliar Gambetta is a masterful player in his own right, up there with the likes of Crary himself, Tony Rice, Doc Watson, Norman Blake, Steve Kaufman and David Grier. The playing is crisp and warm and of the highest standard with some blistering runs, knocking the spots of most supposed rock guitar virtuosos. Seeing the beautiful album cover and the title "yearning" i just knew i was gonna like this album. The songs are invoking...i find total calm and peace listening to them. I do alot of yoga ...and this is the type of music that sets nice as background music thats not distracting... specially for meditation. sometimes i fall asleep to it too. Listening to Fela Kuti's Live Album with Ginger Baker got me to start listening to the funky, groovy, boogieing sounds of Afrobeat, But it wasn't until I listened to more afrobeat groups that was where I just got completely hooked.
I came across this brilliant album by accident and I must say this would be one of the best afrobeat albums I have ever heard in a very long time! Even just listening to it would get you completely hooked on this music!
A recommended must-buy album for all fans of Afrobeat!
