I heard her song, "Un Jour Un Enfant" from a collection of French music. I love it so much, and finally found her CD here! I love classical music and classical/soft Rock and Roll. I think people who like the Carpenters, or Evita (the show), will love Frida as well. Frida has very smooth and warm voice, her sounds are very peaceful and touching. It is a true form of art. The sound which is also the title of the CD is the best, but every sound in this CD is beautiful.

Whoever these guys are, they certainly can rock the house (or the car, or the beach).
I came across this CD by accident, sampling at a local music store and had to buy it.
The drumming is amazing! Reminds me of the Varanasi drummers of India. Fits seemlessly with Midival Punditz and Karsh Kale. Too bad they don't get more local air play.

This is the French version of an album released around 1980 that was stunning. It had great political comment and was delivered with great gusto if not melodically by the singer.Unfortunately unless you speak French this will be lost on you with this version and I suspect that the original lyrics were written as English as it doesn't seem to flow as well. The music is largely the same but with a few horns added in here and there and the song order is changed with Sect(The Jim Jones cult massacre comment) closing the album.The music style is often like early AC\DC and Bon Scott is pictured in the sleeve to which the album was dedicated.

It's important to be aware of what you are getting here. The Uzbek musician Sevara Nazarkhan began her career singing the traditional folk music of her country, and she was a talented performer on the dutar (Central Asia lute) as well. This album, however, has her adopting pop stylings, with World music producer Hector Zazou providing electronic beats and loops. The only thing traditionally Uzbek about the album are the Uzbek-language lyrics and dutar plucking by a backup musician (who must often fight to be heard above the electronics).

If you are just getting into France Gall or even only slightly interested in Ye-Ye, buy this CD. I have looked into all of the other compilations of her 60's work that are available, and none have quite the character of this one.
At 32 well-picked tracks on two discs, this is a terrific value. Further, unlike many of the "best of" albums, the tracks are all in chronological order - a big plus for me.
This is actually a slimmed-down version of the "long-box" edition Polydor released in 2006. I highly recommend the latter as it covers all of her 60's work chronologically - including everything on her 60's albums.

One and One Is One

I found "ESY-SHJ" on last.fm and loved it, so I checked out the rest of the album. I got more of the same - as in, amazing, melodic, danceable, yet the songs are all unique and don't all sound like a repeat of each other. In a word, perfect.

"Asian Vibes" is truly amazing - beautiful vocals and great beat. I could have just kept on enjoying them on my last.fm playlist, but this album is more than worth spending the $10 on so I can take it with me everywhere!
