Kings of Benin is a diverse and exceptional sampling of 1970s African-style R&B. T.P. Orchestre Poly-Rythmo's style varies from funk to disco to R&B. The music features stellar bass lines, an amazing horn section (it's a ten-member band), inventive keyboards, and layers of thumping drums driving the beat. It's got Latin flavor & Tito Puente influences, but it is distinctly African. This is great background music for an outdoor party, a vacation or anytime you want an exotic and different choice of music. Get this CD--you will like it.

I love to read the reviews of critics. You can learn a lot from critics, just by their ignorance, which they so ignorantly (and eagerly) display.
This album is a masterpiece. I admit to my shame that I have only heard half the album. I heard it on HOS 12 years ago and have never gotten it out of my head. It seems to have been the inspiration behind the movie LawnMower Man, whether anyone will admit it I couldn't care less.
The folks who give this less than a four, or even a five for that matter, are suffering from an over-inflated ego, and an excessive desire to hear themselves speak.
If the purpose of new age music is to help transport you into new worlds of thought and reality, then this album has succeeded ... Read More:

20 years ago I heard an interview with Mickey Hart on NPR. He had wanted to compose a piece of music for his pregnant wife and their unborn child. He based it on her heartbeat. They played it through the pregnancy and again during the birth and afterwards. From then on when their son would go ballistic, or cranky or teething or not want to go to sleep, they would put on the music. Within miniutes their son chilled and became a human once again. Their son was about 4 when tthe interview happened and the interviewer asked the son what his favoite music was. "Music to be born by" came spontaneously. And his second favorite? The Grateful Dead. I sought out the recording (it was only a casette at that time and only through the graces of WGBH) and ... Read More:

This CD features 29 German beer drinking and merrymaking selections as performed by a male chorus with instrumental accompaniment. Sound quality is excellent and the whole presentation is totally professional. The song, "O Du Wunderschoener Deutscher Rhein," is alone worth the modest price of this CD. I highly recommend it!

This is an interesting little record and one of my favourites. Ok: La vie en rose, Les feuilles mortes, Mon manége a moi, Sous le ciel de Paris... Sounds very familiar and safe. These are classics, so many times done. But here they are really beautifully sung, Montand's voice is so close to perfection as it can be: soft but strong, moving lightly and surely, a true professional and still very sincere.
There are at least two very good collections on Amazon, '36 titres' and live recording from Olympia 1981, but both collections - as well as most collections! - lack some highlights of Montand's career. C'est si bon, the alluring, very sexy song as done by Montand is here, so are the beautiful ballads Le chevalier de Paris, L'ame des poètes ... Read More:

This recording simply lifted my spirits, straight up. Simple but brilliant sporadic use of the digeridoo, combined with contemporary rock instrumentation with a generous sprinkling of reggae influence. Wow! If you like classic World Beat-type music, this will not disappoint!

This CD, perhaps more than any other, takes me away to another place. Some of the songs paint a vivid picture of a caravan of camels in my mind. The title track is incredibly soulful with a sad, longing quality. If that track does not evoke emotions in you, something has died inside of you. I highly recommend this CD.

I didn't think it was possible to top Chinese Traditional Erhu Volume 1 but this cd does. This music is good for the soul!
