I first heard the group "Hot Club of Cow Town" in Aspen some years ago. My friends and I followed them to the Tractor Tavern in Seattle a few years later, keeping this extraordinary group in our sights ever since.

Elena Fremerman (sp?) makes a violin do things that certain currently influential groups would lose control of basic body functions over. Her interpretation of classic folk, country swing, show tunes and other great music has been honored recently by other great artists.

I've heard her voice described variously as "clear" and "smoky". I understand both descriptions, embrace them, and add "and a whole lot more."

Steve Wariner, one of country's best, has been making great music for over 20 years now. And there has been numerous Greatest Hits packages over the years, some recently. Well, chalk another one up. This one, entitled "Hits Collection" is not to be confused with "The Hits" from MCA; and it showcases Steve's Capitol output. If you have the three Capitol albums, you don't need to add this because no "extras" are included. This CD is best recommended for those who usually buy Greatest Hits collections only, or for those who want "Holes in the Floor of Heaven" and "Two Teardrops" on the same disc. Just bought this CD & I must say CC&LPAM are a really good band! Their mix of boogie/woogie & western swing is very catchy & to think many of these cuts were recorded years ago. Check out their version of Smoke, Smoke, Smoke, which IMHO is superior to Asleep at the Wheels. Ray Benson's Hot Rod Lincoln version is almost a note by note copy of Bill Kirchen's with CC&LPAM. For the price this CD is a good deal.

Great band, great album. They are not slavish imitators of the original recordings, but they are so tuned into them that it's the best of both worlds: An authentic spirit and modern recording technology.

When CC & His LPA came out in 1975, Warner Bros was disappointed with the sales (they had very high expectations). They decided to spend very little to promote the next album --Tales from the Ozone-- and quickly let it go out of print. The 3rd Warner LP was live, not new material, just milking the fan base IMO as the band broke up.

I've been a big fan for 30 years, and I'll tell ya, both of the Warner studio albums are EXCELLENT and MUST HAVES. I've been literally waiting for decades to get a chance to replace my worn-out LPs with CD copies of both!!

Country rock doesn't get any better than this!

I bought this CD for the title song. It is the same as in the movie "Rio Bravo" (my husband's favorite movie which we watch all the time). There is a strange intro by John Wayne but doesn't take away from the song, which seems to be cut off at the end just a few seconds too soon. I like several other selections, including the theme from "The Searchers". The others are OK with some that are strange. Why have Lorne Greene half/talk-half/sing the "Bonanza" theme? Just give me the real thing. The CD has songs you wouldn't find just anywhere and I like that. I really wanted the Dean Martin/Ricky Nelson title song and the CD was worth it to me.
