This one will stay in your CD player. You'll be a happy camper, singing along before you know it, whether you're a yodeling fan (yet) or not. Wylie is the real deal, and this is his best.

by: Dan Hicks & His Hot Licks

Release Date August 29, 2000
We went to see Dan Hicks in June 2007 at the BB King Blues Club in NYC. I was hoping for a repeat of "Where's the Money" and was initially disappointed they didn't play anything from that album. But we bought this on the way out and it is played nonstop at our house now. These are the tunes we use to start every weekend. I loved them back in the 70's but also now love the direction they've gone in years later.
I can't recommend this highly enough.
In fact, it's stuck in my head on a nonstop loop and that's OK with me.

by: Red Foley

Release Date June 01, 1999
That famous line from the musical Oliver fits this CD to a T. Not that there's anything wrong with it. Here you have 14 of his Top 40 Country hits, three of which - Chattanoogie Shoe Shine Boy, Sugarfoot Rag, and Alabama Jubilee - crossed over into, and did very well on, the pop charts in 1950/51. Along for the ride are lesser hits like When God Dips His Love In My Heart and Deep Blues, which was overshadowed only by the fabulous A-side Midnight in 1952.

No, the problem is Red Foley had SIXTY-ONE Top 40 Country charters between 1944 and 1959, including ten more that made noise on the pop charts. And, with all of them on the Decca label, some don't seem to be available anywhere! The list is far too long to go into here in any detail, ... Read More:

Legends of American Music: The Original Outlaw

CD-Charts > Music > Western Swing
by: Merle Haggard

Release Date November 06, 2007
Like any box set of a great artist, the material is excellent, and "The Original Outlaw" includes most of Merle's greatest songs. However, this set, the only one that spans Merle's entire career, could have been much better.

First, there isn't enough Haggard. There are only 3 discs, and, where the fourth would be, only a nice picture of Merle. It wuld have been nice to include a fourth disc with another twenty songs, or to have included more songs on each of the three discs. Discs 1 and 2 each clock in at under an hour, and Disc 3 is about 70 minutes long. Thus, they could have incuded another 45-50 minutes of music. In the end, then, this set should have been either 3 discs of about 25 songs or 4 discs of 20.

An expansion in ... Read More:

by: Red Stick Ramblers

Release Date April 26, 2005
Great band, great album. They are not slavish imitators of the original recordings, but they are so tuned into them that it's the best of both worlds: An authentic spirit and modern recording technology.

CD-Charts Music : The Hits Collection

The Hits Collection

CD-Charts > Music > Western Swing
by: Steve Wariner

Release Date March 25, 2003
Steve Wariner, one of country's best, has been making great music for over 20 years now. And there has been numerous Greatest Hits packages over the years, some recently. Well, chalk another one up. This one, entitled "Hits Collection" is not to be confused with "The Hits" from MCA; and it showcases Steve's Capitol output. If you have the three Capitol albums, you don't need to add this because no "extras" are included. This CD is best recommended for those who usually buy Greatest Hits collections only, or for those who want "Holes in the Floor of Heaven" and "Two Teardrops" on the same disc. The music is great, and gets the 5 stars, but my only other gripe besides no rare or unreleased songs, is why only 11 songs? For example, where's "Road Trippin'", ... Read More:

CD-Charts > Music > Western Swing
by: Hot Club of Cowtown

Release Date September 05, 2000
This is another phenomenal album. It has one of my favorite renditions of Devil's Dream ever recorded and is, in true HCOC fashion, a genuinely good album. The only reason I give this album four stars instead of five is that it is probably the weakest album out of the five albums they have released. That having been said, to call this album the weakest is like picking the weakest between Tony Atlas, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and early-80's Stallone... yeah, Stallone would be the weakest, but he's still lightyears tougher than the rest of the folks out there. The point of that little ramble was this: Buy the album, you will be impressed!
