Of his early years(not that he's old), this is his best. the classic title track swings like mad, and the whole cd is full of energy Sandy's vocals sound right out of 1949! Lee Jeffries steel guitar playing add the perfect amount of western swing/hillbilyl boogie to the rockabilly mix. Austentic sounding stuff taht sounds late 1940's early 50's. Get this and Sandy's latest cd "It's Time" for starters.

If you are any kind of fan of instrumental music. This album is a must have. This album is simply incredible. The Cats are one of the most innovative bands I've heard since the Hellecasters. These guys play a kind of music I can only describe as a hybrid of jazz and western swing, with elements of rock and blues thrown in for good measure. Combine that with some seriously talented musicians who love to please, and your in for some great entertainment. Joe Goldmark plays steel guitar here. If you want to hear just how good this guy is, just listen to the wild opener "Splitsville". He goes absolutely wild here, like a steel guitar player on speed, whose watched too many Saturday morning cartoons of the Roadrunner. He continues this theme ... Read More:

I wouldnt expect a Canadian to know what real good country music is... in other words, this CD is worth the buy, I thoroughly enjoy every song on it. Pancho and Lefty especially. Willie Nelson is the man, I really like listening to him.
Release Date May 16, 1990
I love this album...it is one of the first times I heard Western Swing.
Contrary to what some of the reviews say, it *is* or at least was available on disc. Mine says CBS Special Products A 37324, and below that DIDP 072015.
I'm afraid I took it out of the Jewel Box to put it in a sleeve, and some of the notes are missing, so this may not be all the numbers, but it is everything on the disc itself. It's well worth tracking down, assuming you can.

Except for "Rosetta" (sung by pianist Carl "Sonny" Leyland) and "Booze Party" (bassist Wally Hersom handles this one), these are band instrumentals.
HIGHLIGHTS:
Leyland's "Wizard's Dust" is an ivory workout, "Flyin' Rite" is a nice mid-tempo Western swing number (that sounds like it cops a bar or two of "Pennsylvania 6-5000"), the swing is in full force for "Hit and Run" (with Bobby Trimble doing his best to ape Gene Krupa) and steel spotlight "Rhapsody in Violet" (which recalls 50s great "Sleepwalk"). "Minor Struggle" is another nice jazzy piano number.
LOWS:
Guitarist Kingman wrote "Laguna Sunset" but it's a fairly lackluster affair (his "Mary's Mood" fares better). "Booze Party" is fairly laidback for what should ... Read More:

I first heard the group "Hot Club of Cow Town" in Aspen some years ago. My friends and I followed them to the Tractor Tavern in Seattle a few years later, keeping this extraordinary group in our sights ever since.
Elena Fremerman (sp?) makes a violin do things that certain currently influential groups would lose control of basic body functions over. Her interpretation of classic folk, country swing, show tunes and other great music has been honored recently by other great artists.
I've heard her voice described variously as "clear" and "smoky". I understand both descriptions, embrace them, and add "and a whole lot more."
I recommend the music of Hot Club of Cow Town and Elena Fremerman to people who like the genres, ... Read More:

I first heard Shelby on country music stations years ago on her album Tough All Over and was very impressed. My tastes in music have changed over the years and I rediscovered her about a year ago. I personally enjoy her newer style now much better, but it was worth purchasing to listen to her roots.
Release Date September 30, 1997
Nothing worse than taking a traditional Christmas song and messing it up by any genre. I just heard Merry Texas Christmas, Y'all on the radio and I am about sick to my stomach.
Next thing we know someone will come out with a rap album called "Deck the Ho's" -- no difference than this.

You can not find any better singers doing the fine job of singing together than Merle Haggard and the late great Bonnie Owens. I truly enjoy listening to this cd by them both and I think others will too.
