That famous line from the musical Oliver fits this CD to a T. Not that there's anything wrong with it. Here you have 14 of his Top 40 Country hits, three of which - Chattanoogie Shoe Shine Boy, Sugarfoot Rag, and Alabama Jubilee - crossed over into, and did very well on, the pop charts in 1950/51. Along for the ride are lesser hits like When God Dips His Love In My Heart and Deep Blues, which was overshadowed only by the fabulous A-side Midnight in 1952.

Holy Moly, I thought I owned every Wylie album, and now I find this in the bargain basement of Amazon. I haven't even heard it yet, but I like all the others so why wouldn't I like this one. Maybe it's his very first, or second. The earliest one I have now has Will Ray playing guitar - - holy moly!

After having been blown away by Jamie O'Hara's "Beautiful Obsession" CD, he writes & co-writes 6 of the 10 tracks here. Shelby Lynne's voice is one of the most beautiful & expressive. Marrying that voice to great material with sterling musicianship results in one unforgettable CD.

HIGHLIGHTS:
Leyland's "Wizard's Dust" is an ivory workout, "Flyin' Rite" is a nice mid-tempo Western swing number (that sounds like it cops a bar or two of "Pennsylvania 6-5000"), the swing is in full force for "Hit and Run" (with Bobby Trimble doing his best to ape Gene Krupa) and steel spotlight "Rhapsody in Violet" (which recalls 50s great "Sleepwalk"). "Minor Struggle" is another nice jazzy piano number.

LOWS:
Guitarist Kingman wrote "Laguna Sunset" but it's a fairly lackluster affair (his "Mary's Mood" fares better). "Booze Party" is fairly laidback for what should be a raucous ... Read More:

I heard some Rose Madox and it sounded real good, like Patsy Cline. This sounds more like old Carter Family Stuff, the quality is not that good and not as smooth. If you like old Carter Family Stuff you might like this. But the cooler stuff must have been recorded in latter years.
