The songs are very kid friendly, and enjoyable for adults too. Our three year old was learning the words after hearing the songs only once. (ie: banana phone and apples and bananas) And, if Allison Krauss's Blessed Be doesn't make you get goose bumps, hug your children, and promise to be the best parent possible...there is something wrong with you : ) Truly a beautiful song. The songs are upbeat and fun, without sounding like "toddler music". We love this CD.

Another wonderful trip through Dan Hicks' humorous mind. Sing along, if you are not laughing. "First I lost my marbles, then I lost you" my wife laughs everytime I sing it to her....great.

I bought this to put back to back with Cammander Cody live on my MP3. This is great as it stands alone, but fantastic behind Cody on a shuffle.

This is a great place for listeners curious about Hank's sound to start. The songs are a great sampling of his various styles, and the recordings are beautiful across the board. The tasteful flourishes of strings and steel guitar reveal Hank to be a playful, inventive bandleader, composer, and songwriter.
I personally first heard him via the recordings from his home studio collected on the album "Hank World." While that's a great document, this album opened my ears to the true depths of his talent and willingness to experiment.
In particular, I'm always thrilled to hear the little snare accents echoing the chorus in "Rub-A-Dub-Dub" and the mournful touches of steel guitar in "Waiting in the Lobby of Your Heart." The ... Read More:

Just bought this CD & I must say CC&LPAM are a really good band! Their mix of boogie/woogie & western swing is very catchy & to think many of these cuts were recorded years ago. Check out their version of Smoke, Smoke, Smoke, which IMHO is superior to Asleep at the Wheels. Ray Benson's Hot Rod Lincoln version is almost a note by note copy of Bill Kirchen's with CC&LPAM. For the price this CD is a good deal.

I bought this CD for the title song. It is the same as in the movie "Rio Bravo" (my husband's favorite movie which we watch all the time). There is a strange intro by John Wayne but doesn't take away from the song, which seems to be cut off at the end just a few seconds too soon. I like several other selections, including the theme from "The Searchers". The others are OK with some that are strange. Why have Lorne Greene half/talk-half/sing the "Bonanza" theme? Just give me the real thing. The CD has songs you wouldn't find just anywhere and I like that. I really wanted the Dean Martin/Ricky Nelson title song and the CD was worth it to me.

"ROCK AROUND THE CLOCK" IS THE SONG BILL HALEY AND THE COMETS ARE BEST REMEMBERED FOR. IT WAS RELEASED IN 1955, AND IT IS USUALLY CITED AS BEING ONE OF THE FIRST ROCK AND ROCK AND ROLL SONGS BY WHITE ARTISTS. BUT ONE LISTEN TO THIS CD WILL TELL YOU THAT BILL HALEY WAS PLAYING ROCK AND ROLL MUSIC FOR YEARS BEFORE THAT SONG EVER CAME OUT. THESE RECORDINGS ARE FROM 1951-1954. IT BEGINS WITH THE SONG "ROCKET 88", WHICH IS REGARDED BY SOME "EXPERTS" AS BEING THE FIRST "TRUE" ROCK AND ROLL SONG (A MOST DECIDEDLY DEBATABLE POINT), AS IT WAS DONE BY JACKIE BRENTSON IN 1951(BUT IN ACTUALITY SHOULD HAVE BEEN CREDITED TO IKE TURNER, WHO PLAYS PIANO ON AND HELPED WRITE THE SONG). BILL HALEY'S VERSION, THE FIRST SONG ON THIS ALBUM CAME OUT THE VERY SAME ... Read More:
