Too $hort has been in the game for over twenty years, and I had a lot of respect for him when he first arrived on the scene. But sometime during the early nineties his lyrics had been over-sexualized, and that in itself has an acquired taste. He also got into the habit of retiring and then coming back a year or two later with a new album anyway. But there's nothing too exciting about Get Off the Stage.
The surprising thing, however, is that only two songs are ENTIRELY about sex: "I Like It" (which made me say the opposite, although someone named Dolla Will drops a nice verse) and the disgusting "Pull Them Panties Down". Short Dog also fails when he responds to haters, whether it be other men ("F.Y.O.U."; the title track) or gold ... Read More:

I have mixed feelings about this album. The production is stellar - tremendous beats, catchy hooks, and classic samples. Snoop's laid back, sometimes comical drawl is a perfect complement to the hard hitting rhythm tracks and Dre's deeper voice. In fact, as an MC, Snoop basically steals the spotlight here. The album's singles - "...Dre Day," "Let Me Ride," and "...G Thang" - are bonafide classics, and several other tracks are almost as memorable. Here are my reservations: I'm certainly not the first to state this, but the lyrics, while often catchy, too often resort to cheap sensationalism (that's probably the gentlest criticsm I could offer about the lyrics). It's almost as if every time they couldn't think of something else to say, they'd ... Read More:

Ice Cube drops "The Predator" on everyone and with the hit songs "It Was A Good Day", "Check Yo Self". He raps about all that's going in that era, crooked cops, politics and so much more. He's able to do it with a swagger and confidence that most can't even duplicate. Along with "Death Certificate" and "AmeriKKKa's Most Wanted" this one is right up there with some of the greatest albums put out in the era. Also of note are remixes for "Check Yo Self" and "It Was A Good Day".
The videos make the songs even better especially with It Was A Good Day and the ending that still has folks talking about and checking this one out. It only served to put that song in people's minds. Also songs like "Don't Trust Em" sampling BBD's "Poison" (about ... Read More:

Seriously, this has everything. It technically a rap album. But with so much soul, funk, reggae it's not like any other made. It sounds very 70's in parts, and old school when it does rap.
The lyrics are some of the best. The first two tracks are just good songs. After that, every song is a story with a philosophy behind it. It's amazing to be so message oriented and still just sound good and make you move. Franti is a first rate songwriter who gets way too little attention.
Whether he's talking about getting tested for HIV, Peace as something you can give to everyone in pieces, Finding a hero in your father and not giving up, or just eating a plain ol' plate of Red Beans and Rice and being content are messages of wisdom. My favorite is the ... Read More:

Based on the reviews I thought this CD would be more than what it was. Del really only hits the mark on 3-5 songs, the first 2 and Proto Kulture being the best. Otherwise he seems to be just off the beat and kind of sloppy. If I knew what I knew now I would have just picked up the mp3's for those 3-5 songs.
Release Date November 23, 1993
Although this album did not have as many memorable songs as the album his first album "i wish my brother gorge was here" which had such songs as "Dr.Bombay", "Mistadobalina" and "Sleepin on my couch" but he brought a much different approach on his style going from what seemed to be a more funkadelic style to completely G-Funk with such great songs as "Catch A Bad One" and "Wrong Place" this album is "CLASSIC"

Ozomatli, how could you go wrong? Tasty latin, world, jazz, hip hop, salsa. How many bands can play that many styles? Ozomatli can.
Ozomatli show how you should do a 9 piece band. Please, let's not even mention Slipknot. This band actually uses each band member, you know, instead of Slipknot, who sound like they use one of their guitarist, corey, and the drums pretty much the whole time (come on, you have a sampler, a dj, two percussionists, two guitarists, a bassist, a drummer, you idiots. USE THEM!!!). It's really some interesting stuff to listen to. Though the songwriting sometimes seems to falter. I don't know, but it sometimes seems to be a bit okay, not merely awesome, either great or good.
