After their debut album Sex Packets, Digital Underground comes with their next full length album "Sons Of The P". And as you can tell by the title of this album, expect some Parlament/George Clinton sounding funk all over this album. What I like about D.U. is that they can freak the samples of the group and make it into full length songs. Not many producers can do that so well (maybe Ant Banks). They did it well on their debut album, and they did it well here too.

As I suspect many fans have, I came to this release only after hearing Nate Dogg drop into some of my favorite rap songs to provide a chorus or hook. Like Michael Caine or Tabasco Sauce, Nate Dogg makes everything he touches better. I had checked out G-Funk Classics, Vols. 1 & 2 and, as reviews noted, its extended length and poor production dragged it down. Some great moments, but not a great album. I loved The Hard Way but still wanted that Nate Dogg solo masterpiece. It was with hesitation that I approached this release. I am so sorry I waited as this is a stone-cold classic.

This album has alot of good beat for Baby Got Back, Finally, Deeper And Deeper, Im Too Sexy, Jump Around, Real Love and the rest. I have this album when I first saw this album at the mall in 1993. I never stop loving this album! Its been 14 years and I never get tired of listening this album!!

This CD is brilliant. Its the original hardcore rap with no censors or edits. The lyrics say it like it is over bomb dropping drum beats. If you're looking for an old school rap cd, forget all that other toy hip hop stuff, get this. Its excellent.

For reference, I am a 30 year old white girl :-) This record would be a great place to start, as an introduction to Kool Keith. I have listened to just about all of his work and think this record is a great example of his style as an artist. Kool Keith is continually pushing the boundaries and always comes up with something that is unique - this record is a great example, I challenge you to find another one like it! On "Sex Style" Keith presents some "pornocore" that is just awesomely ridiculous. He is a true original. All of his personas are interesting but I find this incarnation the most visionary, and true to himself. Above The Law has been one of many victims that have been slept on by the masses. Majority of their albums that were released were due to bad timing, because many albums that came out that were more popular which overshadowed everything this group has done. Such as this album Black Mafia Life, which has came out a little after The Chronic, which we already have known what the impact was. Speaking of which, brings me to another point about ATL compared to other west coast artists. One reviewer said that other groups have moved on while ATL was not looking, and I have to agree.
