MC Ren comes back for his fourth album just 2 years after The Villain In Black. Unfortunately, this is the only album of his I have as of Mar. 2007. But I gotta say it knocks all the way thru. Ren still kicks those tales of his Compton set just like he did with NWA. Even though he reps CPT to the fullest, the beats are just as Bay Area, and even Down South, as they are LA. Ant Banks laces fire on "N---a Called Ren," and "All The Same" with those melodic space boogie beats he's well known for. T-Mixx, of Suave House fame in Texas and Memphis creates heat on 3 songs (1/4 the album!): 1)"Who In The F---" (f/ 8Ball/MJG), 2)"Voyage To Compton"(what an awesome laid-back G-Funk smoker), and 3) "Must Be High." I cant say enough good things about this cd.To me, this and public enemy's apocalypse 91 are the greatest hip hop albums of all time. EVERY track is great on this disc and it is not dated at all, a true classic from the true OG.

This album just blew me away. I had to go on a major expedition for it when it came out because many stores weren't carrying it. (He got a lot of derogatory press for his song "Bush Killa", and I guess retailers caved under the pressure.) It was worth the effort though. This is one of those few albums where EVERY SONG IS AWESOME. This is not an exaggeration. Every single song on this album is fantastic. Most albums have a good song or two, maybe a few at most, but ALL THE SONGS????? That almost never happens. And for the more politically conscious, this album is as relevant today as it was the last time a Bush sent soldiers to Iraq. Who knew that that chubby, jheri curled kid that debuted on Straight Outta Compton would hang around for another 20 years and still make quality music? I sure didn't. Cube has carved out a pretty stellar resume' for himself. His latest offering, Raw Footage, may not be on par with some of his best work, but it's a solid release that adds to his legacy at a point in his career when most rappers with the same amount of years in the game usually wind up hurting their legacy. (*cough* LL Cool J *cough*) Raw Footage, in short, is pretty much the old Cube over updated production. In some cases, that's a good thing. In other cases, not so much. Ice Cube's newly formed group Da Lench Mob was making music since 1990, which focused on pro Black music, and social political comentary in the Los Angeles neighborhoods. While most of their members went on to record solo albums, and whoever was left would record under their group name, would follow in Ice Cube's footsteps very closely when it comes to the type of music that he is known for making at the time.

Da Lench Mob (who was left), consisted of JD, T-Bone, and Shorty. With their debut, this is truly one angry album with intensive lyrics. Reppin' Oaktown (415 & 510), Richie Rich set off his major label debut Seasoned Veteran on Def Jam back in 1996 (but from what I understood, hes been around since the early 90's). First time I heard him was on the Luniz' "I Got 5 On It (Remix)". What RR brought along this album was his real deep voice and his playa lifestyle lyrics all throughout here. The production here is real deep bass sounding here as well, giving this album a real deep atmosphere all thoughout.

A few easy standouts were "Lets Ride" and the funky "Fresh Out".
