well after listening to this CD a bunch of times, i like it better than I initially did. love the fact that they used band of gypsies on track 2 because i loved that original album with hendrix, buddy miles and band of gypsies with message of love, etc. also love kiss me and i'll kiss you back and give the man his props or whatever that song is called; i think it is track 9. the lyrics are pretty entertaining throughout the entire CD. great bass player. like it because it isn't too nasty and doesn't refer to women as bitches and ho's.

As I suspect many fans have, I came to this release only after hearing Nate Dogg drop into some of my favorite rap songs to provide a chorus or hook. Like Michael Caine or Tabasco Sauce, Nate Dogg makes everything he touches better. I had checked out G-Funk Classics, Vols. 1 & 2 and, as reviews noted, its extended length and poor production dragged it down. Some great moments, but not a great album. I loved The Hard Way but still wanted that Nate Dogg solo masterpiece. It was with hesitation that I approached this release. I am so sorry I waited as this is a stone-cold classic.
After hearing MUSIC & ME I have no idea how this was not a mega-chart-topper. Vocals are superb throughout, guest spots almost all shine consistently ... Read More:

Hands down. Dogg Food does not get it's due. This is the last great G-Funk record by Death Row. Great production by Daz and incredible lyricism from Kurupt, who in my opinion is one of the greatest rappers ever.
Release Date April 25, 2000
I'm a fan, don't get me wrong. On disc 1, there's 6/10 songs that are winners, but "certified bomb" is just embarrassing. On disc 2, there are 2 good songs, and one (Rock superstar) is basically just a remix from disc 1. The other good one was Valley of Chrome. After that, the attempt at metal is pretty poor, and it was a bad direction to take. Sen particularly let the band down on this album (he was great on IV.)

Few artists could start off and be as consistant as Compton's DJ Quik. Debuting during the height of the west cost's popularity, Quik's talents are able to shine through the crowded market. And it's amazing too, because he produces every track and rhymes like it's nothing to it. He doesn't try to immitate other west coast producers, or loop any Parlament or Zapp samples, but just tries to be himself. He also shows love by putting his friends AMG, Hi-C, and 2nd II None on the mic as well, and they all do a great job.
The tracks here are energetic here. Starting with "Sweet Black..." would be one of the many songs that Quik would rhyme about. "Tonite" & "Born And Raised In Compton" are two of the three the lead singles from this album. The latter ... Read More:

OK, like, this is really good music and where was I in the year 2000 when Blackalicious' "Nia" came out? I can answer that one friend. I wasn't listening to the best new music to come out that year back then friend. I wasn't cool. I wasn't hip. But you can become that by simply buying this album, boy!
Nevermind the band's name and its connection now to that annoying designer on Project Runway that keeps trying to come up with his very own little catch phrase by saying everything is something-licious. The forecast is looking good that the phrase won't catch on to the lexicon of pop language in America and you can get back to listening to Blackalicious in peace. That dude'll be voted off before you know it when Heidi lays down the smackdown.
