This woman moved me! I felt exitement, finality, pain, passion, victory, sensuousness, and nostalgia of a time unknown to me. The Salome aria is the most convincingly and beautifully sung I have ever heard by far. The thread of sound is never broken. The lieder selections are very lovely and interestingly personal, not at all detached or serious; a joy. Strauss' Four Last Songs done with piano are quite effective as such.

The recorded sound is very impressive; a clean, full-bodied sound. Columbia's mono recordings are absolutely superior.

From the remote 1954 when Callas registered for EMI this Rossini's 'dramma buffo' I've never listened and enjoy an excellent version like this. Chailly delight from the podium and give it to the cast with a dazzling performance. Bartoli makes a beautiful Fiorilla with your charming voice and expressiveness; Corbelli with your voice and portrayal of the tortured Geronio is a fine comediant. Vargas, Pertusi and De Candia are all excellent, but one pleasant revelation is the Zaida of Laura Poverelli, great and enjoyable voice ant performance. The quality sound and balance of this London register are also very good. Essential recording for all opera lovers.

Dentro de las pocas grabaciones que existen de esta obra, esta es probablemente una de esas que se acostumbrar llamar como "de referencia". Excelente la interpretación del barítono "Elías" y en general lo solistas La orquesta emociona e impacta en todo momento. Unico detalle, en algunos momentos la cuerda de sopranos se pierde un poco.

This recording, featuring noted Wagnerians James Morris and Deborah Voight, is a great recording of Dutchman. I can't figure out why there are so many negative reviews here.

Morris' Dutchman is nothing short of stunning and Voigt makes an amazing Senta (her rendition of Senta's Ballad is just perfect). Dismiss the naysayers and add this to your collection.

I disagree that this work is 'primarily' a choral piece.
Whatever problem there existed in the chorus, it did not marr the performance in any significant manner, since the orchestral work and the three soloists were astoundingly superb.
Tavela had been Boehm's top bass in many of Boehm's recordings. He possessed one of the richest bass voices ever heard, with a deep tone that could be gruffy and serious, as well as vivaciously funny. The requisite versatility demonstrated in this piece and the expressiveness are simply stunning. His timbre is unlike another great bass of that era - Cesare Siepi, who possesses a more lyrical sound - basso cantante.
Gundula Janowitz has been a top-notch 'classical' soprano. Her interpretive abilities for Mozart, Haydn and Beethoven were noted by top ... Read More:
