So many times when a person buys a CD there are only a couple of songs that they consider good. On this CD there are over half the songs that are more than good. They are great. This CD has all the Sarah's greatest hits and more. I would highly recommend this CD to anyone who loves Sarah Brightman.

The centerpiece of this CD is a recital of selections from Handel's opera Hercules. The late Lorraine Hunt Lieberson sings Dejanira's recitatives and arias, following a path from passion and jealousy into madness. This program is bookended by two alto arias from Bach cantatas. While the Bach solos are musically more to my liking, the Handel material does well to showcase the mezzo-soprano's talent. For me there are three highlights to this disc.
- Track 1: "Kommt ihr angefochten Sünder" from cantata BWV 30. This is an ideal first song of the day as you start your car. The measured pulse of the music gently helps you wake up and takes the edge off the morning commute. Whether a trick of the composition, the performance, or the recording ... Read More:

This is a masterful performance by the great Vladimir Ashkenazy of Chopin's favourite piano works. If you love Chopin's music and Ashkenazy's magic touch, this 2-disc CD is a must. Apart from all the all-time favourites such as grande valse brillante, op 18, nocturne in E flat major, op 9 no 2, Minute, Black Key, Military, Raindrop, Tristesse etc etc, it's interesting to note Ashkenazy's interpretation of Ballade in G minor, op 23 vis-a-vis Janusz Olejniczak playing it in the poignant scene of the award-winning Polanski's film "The Pianist" ie the piece played by Adrien Brody in his role as Szpilman, the Jewish pianist in hiding, to the German officer Hosenfeld. Enjoy!!

"Amparo" is elevator music with up-market pretensions. Pieces by Albinoni, Faure, Handel, Ravel, and Vaughan Williams, among others, have been arranged by Dave Grusin in a way that reduces them to an aural mush that blends with originals by Lee Ritenour and Grusin himself. The result calls to mind the term "air pudding" Gary Trudeau used in a "Doonesbury" strip about some harmless, undistinguished music. These classical composers have survived worse treatment and won't be scathed by their abuse in this release, which I give one star because I can't give none.
Appearances by classical performers Joshua Bell and Renee Fleming are also meant to give the disc cachet. Their names, in fact, got me to listen to it. They are two of the most gifted ... Read More:

I bought this because I love to listen to cellos. On my Mark&Daniels, the sound is first rate, overall. ButI would have loved to have the cello given a bit more prominence, audio-wise. The accompanying instruments are aggressive enough to drown the cello out in the musical pictures, except for the first selection which is just fabulous.

DAVID DANIELS ROMANTICIZES BACH? LIKE IT OR NOT!!!!!
This is the first David Daniels Baroque Virgins Classic recording since 2002, when he recorded his much acclaimed Handel oratorio arias.
For this new release he returns to the Baroque Era with several significant sacred arias and cantatas by Bach, some of which are solos from the Passions according to St.Matthew and St. John and cantatas that include a very popular often recorded 'Ich habe genug' These were all recorded in London in September, 2007.
It is notable that Daniels has waited until his vocal skills and musical maturity has come to their highest point, and this was quite astute of him to do so. Many professional singers and amateurs as well will readily admit that to sing great ... Read More:
