Yep I love Frank, just about anything he has ever done sits well with me BUT, this CD here, well it ranks right at the top. Nelson Riddle and Frank were perfect together. The cooking chemistry between these two was nothing short of brilliant and it all fit perfect in this collection of songs. The two cranked out many albums together in the mid and late 50s, all wonderful in their own way (Moonlight Sinatra is my favorite mid 60's), but this one has to be the at the top. Franks chops were in their prime, the selection of songs and Riddles orchestrations, perfect fit.
With a Riddle/Sinatra song you know right off before the singing starts if Riddle arranged the song. Just the introduction speaks volumes. Don't get me wrong, Billy ... Read More:

If you're a Steve Tyrell fan (I am - I have all his stuff now), you'll appreciate this one. No big surprises, just smooth, solid performances.
The only reason he doesn't get five stars is purely out of respect for Frank.
Release Date January 29, 2008
Please... this is fantastic. This is the best collection of Al Jarreau songs, and I have them all, so I know. This was just a wonderful trip down memory lane for me, all these great songs on one CD.
Buy it... you won't be disappointed!!!!!!

Rob Reiner's movie entitled When Harry Met Sally deserves the fine soundtrack it had; and this CD of songs based on the movie soundtrack will delight you, too. Sure, these renditions are not what you'll hear when you watch the movie; but this CD gives us plenty to be happy about anyway.
Harry Connick, Jr. was just hitting the big time when he was tapped for this film; and this CD proves he had great talent from the start. Even though he was a mere 21 at the time these songs were recorded, Harry displays a mature and polished sensitivity to the nuances in the lyrics of these songs. Harry croons wonderfully on this CD.
The CD opens with "It Had To be You" with Harry Connick, Jr. playing piano and singing the vocals. The big band arrangement by Marc ... Read More:

If you like music, you'll like this. If you're curious about jazz, but have no idea where to start, look no further: this is the place. Two masters, combining gloriously to make timeless, magical music.

I have really enjoyed this CD. I've been a Nina fan for about 4 years now. I was really surprised at just how well one can remix and tune up her work to make it more modern without impacting her voice. Good stuff!

As a long-time fan of Kurt, I was hoping this album would continue his tradition of walking the innovative "tightrope" that defines the tradition of vocalese as pioneered by Eddie Jefferson, John Hendrix, and Mark Murphy. Instead I heard an entire album of moody crooning derived from his concerts dedicated to Johnny Hartman. I believe this album was recorded in an attempt to widen his commercial appeal - in that regard it appears to have succeeded. However, this was accomplished at the expense of abandoning the cutting-edge style of vocal jazz that brought him initial acclaim in Chicago. Hopefully, Kurt will come to his senses and return to the dynamic vocalese that played to packed crowds at the Green Mill.

This is a great album for my collection. I am not impressed with the recording but overall 2CD and a DVD is great for the price. Please note the CD is the same live performance of the show not the studio recording.
Release Date August 21, 1990
At twenty songs, this is a decent sized compilation into the popular music of the decade that roared. Some of these songs are familiar (Rhapsody in Blue) and other songs you'll be surprised to find familiar, having never known their name before.
Now, the 1920s is a bit before my time. I love this music though. This, aside from the movies, was really my introduction to it.

"Dreamer" was released 2002 on RCA's Bluebird label and stands as one Elias' best to date. Her amazing piano playing is not really the main focus her like on so many of her recordings, but she does play some great improvisations, though short in length. The string orchestrations are also very well done. Absolutely beautiful.
There are two highlights for me "Call Me" and "A House Is Not A Home." Those two songs are the worth the price of admission, but this is not to say that the whole album isn't great. "Call Me" features some of the lyrical improvisations from Michael Brecker I've ever heard. I'm not a fan of him at all, but am quite shocked to him play with lyricism. He has a great tone on this song as well.
Here's a lineup of all the musicians: Oscar ... Read More:
