Being a present resident in Florida - and NEVER being able to listen to TRUE Salsa de la isla del encanto (Puerto Rico & New York City) on radio or television, ... it's refreshing to know that there are a FEW bands out there that continue to deliver the music that WE (especially Boricuas) wish to hear. New York City has always been the mecca and this CD proves that point. Swinging for those who wish to dance and very tight arrangements for the listener. Now that original SALSA is back in New York City,... how about some of this greatness in music in Florida.
ALSO: I see a grammy in store for The New Swing Sextet. GREAT CD !

This is excellent for a real beginner but for me it was too basic even though I am new to Salsa I'm not to ballroom dancing. It is similar to mambo with different timing, but it won't be a total loss. It will help my husband with the basics & we can get some additional steps from the demo. However, if I had it to do again, I would pay a little more & order from The Learn to Dance Salsa collection. I was able to view a sample at [...]. I liked it better because it was more upbeat & I felt it taught more material instead of so much repetition on just the basic step, a simple left turn & underarm turn. I live in Panama and two nights ago had the great pleasure of going to Carlos Vives' concert, on his "Rock de mi Pueblo" tour. If you have a chance to catch part of this tour, do so. His live act is marvelous, a great way to see him and all of his talented musicians in action. His love for Colombia and attachment to his musical roots are still strong and come across in every piece. This collection is not as traditional-sounding as his previous ones, but he's stretching and trying out new stuff, always with great musical talent and creativity. I just hope he doesn't stray too far from Colombia's beloved vallenato style and lose it in the process.
