This is a sweet and lovely CD, light and uplifting, esp. the last song, La Vie En Rosa, which is sung by Jack Nicholson himself. The music is a little old style, but my grandaughter, who is 17 loves it. Also, I am able to sing along with the French songs, even though my French is very limited. Love this CD!

We were in an Italian restaurant and a CD was playing. The restaurant owner told me who the singer was and as soon as I got home I looked him up on Amazan. I love the entire CD. Alot of times you can order a CD and only like a few songs but all the songs on this CD are great.

When I discussed the Ric Burns documentary about the old West with an Amerindian acquaintance, I complained that the film concentrated on the Lakota, to the exclusion of other peoples. My friend answered that, as the Lakota was the best known native American culture, that was a good place to start, and the audience would then move on to learn about other parts of the story.
I suppose the same is true of the documentary by Ric's brother Ken Burns, on the history of Jazz, on which this box set is based. It is heavy on Louis Armstrong and on the Big Band sound of the Swing era - probably the Jazz best known to the general public - but light in other areas, including the many, varied strands of Jazz in the last 30 years or so. There is a ... Read More:

I have this CD in a Rhino release: same music, same cover photo, same "very best of" tagline, just not the "Greatest Hits" design. I think of John's time on Atlantic Records as his most interesting, and all the performances here are from 1959 and 1960. In the '50's, Coltrane was a more traditional sax improviser, mainly on the Prestige label, and he produced some lovely things. After 1960, he moved more and more into "avant-garde" or "free-form" jazz and lost me as a fan. On Atlantic, you get the best...he is harmonic and inventive, melodic and yet stretching a few solos into unexpected territory. For those not familiar with Coltrane, but not all that adventurous in their jazz tastes, this is a superb introduction, better than the Ken Burns compliation ... Read More:

Nancy La Mott was one of the most popular stars on the cabaret scene, known coast to coast as the artist who best defines this genre. Her mixture of a magnificent voice and a sensitive heart, a spirit that refused to give up while battling the cancer that led to her untimely death and a gift for choosing amazing material, made her a musical legend.
This CD has cuts that were never heard before and old and new fans alike will be enthralled with the honesty of her performances.

Such a joy to listen to over and over again. His son and manager surely knows how to choose voices that blend and enhance his father's own voice, style and sharing thereof. Interviews with the vocalists who join Mr. Bennett on this CD express their admiration and joy in singing with and learning from him.
Can't quite express what a thrill it is to hear him teaching, challenging, and learning from these other artists who obviously are in such awe of the great Tony.

(This is a copy of a review I posted on the 1946 CD of this series, but applies identically to this one.)
There used to be a series by ASV-Living Era of hits of various years, which is no longer available because the company was merged into another, and the new owner withdrew the Living Era series. This series, by Dynamic, fills the gap that was left by the withdrawal of the earlier series.
There are 25 songs to a CD, approximately the same as on the ASV-Living Era series, and though there are no liner notes (as opposed to the very good notes that ASV-Living Era supplied) the price is so much cheaper that it makes up for this. These CDs are VERY affordable.
The choice of songs is slightly different from those on the ASV CDs, ... Read More:

"Sinatra Reprise" focuses on the singer's best work from 1960 to 1979 - combining the integral singles ("Summer Wind," "That's Life" and "My Way") with classic performances of "Fly Me to the Moon," "The Best Is Yet to Come" and "It Was a Very Good Year." Along the way are memorable live versions of "I've Got You Under My Skin" and "The Lady Is a Tramp." Of course, the show-stoppers remain "Luck Be a Lady" and a triumphant "New York, New York." Though no match for the glorious Capitol era, this 20-track Reprise compilation holds up quite nicely.
