I wish the "midlife" reference were not in the title as it made me hesitate and delay trying this product for way too long. It is such an exquisite treat and so powerful in way more ways than I can convey through words. David Whyte's uniquely powerful delivery adds further punch to his great insights that reach ever deeper the more one listens. Thus I found it amazing the first time I listened and keep being blown away by finding it ever more powerful every time I listen. In addition to the content, the place David Whyte speaks from is itself profoundly impactful. At the time I ended up deciding to buy this product I had greatly lamented Amazon not selling David Whyte's "poetry of self-compassion" as I had adored that tape. Although I ... Read More:

How could a man so young be so bitter? And how could it all sound so great, even so life-affirming? Not a misstep on the record, every song here is written and exists; these are not just words set to music, they have the quality of folksongs transmitted orally over generations. Some of the really world weary, misanthropic songs that would pervade 1975's Pour Down Like Silver, but there is a little bit more af a joyous atmosphere working here, despite songs like "The End of the Rainbow": "Life seems so rosy from the cradle/ but I'll be a friend, I'll tell you what's in store/ there's nothing at the end of the rainbow/ there's nothing to grow up for anymore."
A true folksinger, Thompson is so at home in the genre that he is not even ... Read More:

Anyone who came of age in the late nineteen sixties would remember and love this album. Great tunes and lyrics. Donovan is a poet.

I am a big fan of Scottish folk legend Archie Fisher, particularly his 1976 masterpiece, "Will Ye Gang, Love". So when I heard that he was releasing his first new album in twenty years, I was both thrilled and a bit nervous. Would he be too over the hill? Hardly. Fisher's voice, a gentle, supple brogue that makes every song sound timeless, is in fine form on these songs. The album also includes eight vintage recordings from the 1970s that were recorded for a record that was later shelved -- a bonus treat for longtime devotees. If you're an Archie Fisher fan from many years back, or if you're new to his work, but appreciate Celtic folk that skilfully encompasses modern influences, then you'll definitely want to check this out. Highly recommended! (DJ Joe Sixpack, ... Read More:

This album, is now my favorite, they perform Celtic music in a most eloquent fashion. The duo is basically half of a string quartet, and this is apparent in the styling of the music, which adds a dimension to traditional Scottish music. I have been a fan of Alisdar for several years, and own several of his albums, solo, and with Paul Machlis. They play so passionately, it is hard to describe here, so listen for yourself.
Also, I had the pleasure of seeing them live in concert several days ago when they came to town. It was an experience I will cherish. They played many songs from this album. If they are playing in your town, by all means, go see them. And prepare to get up and dance during the encore!!

there's a hidden track on here that my friend had never heard before who has seen them live. Very fun and funny track for fans of GBS

The Chieftains music blends so excellently with the wonderful voices that comprise this album. Whether it's the haunting "Long Black Veil" or the nostalgic "Mo Ghile Mear", the Chieftains get it right every time. If you like Irish music, Irish ballads, or even just Mick Jagger, this album is a must-have.

For someone who has never danced and wants to learn Irish Dance this is an outstanding video. Each movement of each step is done at a slow pace and then in a group at the regular speed. The only fault with the video itself is that you can not replay the steps over and over. But that aside, the DVD is an inexpensive way to learn basic Irish dance steps.

It is unfortunate that most of the music on the air during the 60's where I lived was mainstream top 40 music. Only in the early 70's did one station appear in my area that called itself "an underground" station. They often played music of The Grateful Dead and other San Francisco bands that listeners seldom heard in this corner of the West. The station's format had fewer commercials, and they played more "album rock." But I never had a chance to hear Fairport Convention. I loved the Judy Collins cover of "Who Knows Where The Time Goes" without knowing that she didn't write it. When I heard Sandy Denny's original for the first time in June of '08, I had to have this CD. This song is hauntingly beautiful and the guitar work is superb. The rest of the album is also peaceful. ... Read More:
