.....not a METAL album, but a ROCK album.

Problem with a lot of hardcore metalheads is that they can't venture out of their narrow views, and I say that as someone who has been a Metal fan for many years, but not ONLY a metal fan.

The album is a bit too long, some more quality control could have been exercised and it would have been a 5-star 60-minute album.

No, it's no Master of Puppets, but it's not meant to be !

better than Load but still not enough for me to care. seriously, who cares what Metallica has to say anymore? arent we over it yet? i mean, they released 4 records that made metal what it is today, no one in a metal band can decline the notion that Metallica paved the way and in a way invented what we know today as american metal but that was 20 plus years ago, do we really care anymore?

there are some decent radio hits on this cd which is what Metallica had been trying to do since 1990 and have succeeded but with time the songs on these later era releases just arent worth the plastic they are put on.

I don't write artistic music reviews. Let me just say that I have listened to this album almost every day since it was released, and I am still far from bored or sick of listening to it. I have not listened to much of my other music this year, Bedlam seems to have sucked the life out of it all. I hope the Volta unleashes more brutal assaults on us soon. I hear the next album will be mellow/acoustic.

As a musician I have grown to enjoy and play most genres of music, but I have never lost my love of heavy metal. I am 35 now. I first heard this album as a mullet-headed, scrawny, pimply 16 year old a few years after it came out. I dubbed a cassette copy from a friend and completely wore it out.

I am a musician, and over the years I have grown to enjoy and play most genres of music from rock n' roll to jazz to electronic music, but I have never lost my love of heavy metal. Im not sure what the dissers of this record expected, Max has been pretty much making the same record over and over again for Soulfly, (i like them by the way) but to expect anything really NEW would be odd. But in my opinion this is the best thing either of them have done since Max left sepultura! I enjoy every song on this album, each one his a headbanger or moshpit lovers dream, its full force from beginning to end, with out the experimental stuff that fills out most Soulfly albums. Its really a back to basics metal thrash album. Simple truth, if you like Seplutura, Soulfly, you'll find something to like here, maybe even more like i did.

Vulgar Display of Power

"Cowboy's" brought us a band with great potential.
As classic as that disc is, it is nothing compared to "Vulgar".
Cowboy's had a more power metal melodic flavor to it.
Vulgar drops all that in favor of a pure thrash assault.
A few songs still have the melody, (Hollow).
But for the most part it's just a vicious attack that succeeds brilliantly on every level.
No weak tracks here, nope.
Another must have?

The colours and music in this are just too beautiful for standard definition and it's always disappointing to put this into my DVD player now with a HDTV and see a less-than-perfect image.

I saw the DVD before I bought the CD, when it was playing on VH-1, and it actually made me and my friend cancel our plans for the night while we stayed snuggled up under blankets and watched the entire thing. Last year, when I showed it to another friend, we almost didn't go out either because she was captivated by it.

Any music lover will flip over this. Metallica's music lends itself very well to a symphony orchestra, and I'm so glad they were able to do this before the passing of Michael Kamen. For a girl ... Read More:
