The Cuckoo Clocks of Hell

CD-Charts > Music > Thrash and Speed Metal
by: Buckethead

Release Date April 20, 2004
No doubt about it, B-Head is always going to do whatever his inner desire drives him to do, and we must bask in its glory. As with most fans, I appreciate all he does, but like different works in varying degrees. This means people who tend to like his acoustic-based material will probably think this disc is only good for playing when you want guests who've over-stayed their welcome to leave. I was intrigued by a review that suggested "death metal guitar" sounds, and to be sure the sound is REALLY HEAVY. But there's the added dimension of Bucky's energetic and frenetic musicianship that owns this disc. One reviewer complained "there's no guitar solos"...man, the whole damn thing is a guitar solo, only not in the traditional sense. The riffs morph ... Read More:

Like some others have said, D.R.I. immediately came to mind when I first heard this. I got this CD free somehow, and I finally got around to listening to it. I'm glad I did! I'm about to order the rest of their catalogue. Great CD!

Inferno

CD-Charts > Music > Thrash and Speed Metal
by: Motörhead

Release Date June 22, 2004
At this point in Motorheads career, their legacy is secure. Critically speaking, it doesn't matter too much what they do, its not really going to effect what the world in general will remember them for.

So the new albums are just the band throwing more songs onto the giant pile of awesome Motorhead material.

"Inferno" is no different. The sound remains the same, Motorheads still making music thats either the worlds heaviest rock or the worlds most groveable metal. Some of its more metal, some of its more rock, but it all sounds just like Motorhead.

In that respect, it's probably not going to convert people who don't like Motorhead, but who cares about them? "Inferno" is a great album, it totally rocks.

CD-Charts > Music > Thrash and Speed Metal
by: Walls of Jericho

Release Date April 29, 2008
Slow songs almost like ballads. A depressive sound. A singing front woman instead of shouting. No riffs. And this is from a (metal?) Hardcore band.

Do not be disappointed. This is not Walls of Jericho that we know of. If you want to check out what they are into with a little support from Corey Taylor of Slipknot, then check it out. The EP is cheap, so it is a good value.

On the contrary if you like ...Jericho for tempo changes, aggressive lyrics, hardcore feeling and good riffs, this is not for you. Go for the entire catalogue, but not for this.

CD-Charts > Music > Thrash and Speed Metal
by: Metallica

Release Date November 30, 1999
I wouldn't really rate this as a "true" live album as the symphony concept was a rare event, and not something that truly portrays the songs as you would here them if Metallica was touring today.

S&M came out when i was in high school. Being a band dork, this was a great fusion of something I was fairly familiar with (classical ensembles) and Metallica, something I was just starting to get a taste for (its hard to dive right in when they were coming off of crapfests like Load and Re-load!) For all their missteps in the studio, they still had a great live act and a real wealth of great material. This turned me on to metal in all its forms and potential.
The first three tracks, this start's out with Morricone's "Ecstasy of gold", ... Read More:

by: Shadows Fall

Release Date April 03, 2007
I don't understand how bands get away with this. Every album sounds the same. War Within was a great album but this is so watered down. What happened? And some review said that Brian can sing well. Are you kidding me????? He is a below average singer and it works well with them. That's all. Not great. It is what it is. But this album is not good by any means.

CD-Charts > Music > Thrash and Speed Metal
by: Genghis Tron

Release Date February 19, 2008
I pre-ordered this CD and have been loving it every since it came out. It shows a fair amount of maturity over GT's previous efforts. The boys have found a way to give coherence to the chaos, and rather than that being a bad thing, it comes out sounding like they've hit their stride. This album sounds smart, layered and finished.

In my opinion, this album sounds more 'heavy metal' than their previous efforts. There are moments on the cd that sound like a garden variety metal band. Thankfully these moments don't last more than a few seconds, and it generally adds to the 'thickness' of the sound rather than sounding generic. I think this mostly comes from the new drum sound (Drumkit From Hell, maybe?) and the new guitar amp. Take that as you will, but ... Read More:

the mastering job on this is pretty sweet. there's not a bad cut on here. if you're an old fan or someone curious about the beginnings of thrash, this is one to pick up. anthrax definetly held up their own against metallica, megadeth and slayer. plus they are one of the only thrash bands that had a sense of humour in their music. mosh on!

Some Kind of Monster

CD-Charts > Music > Thrash and Speed Metal
by: Metallica

Release Date July 13, 2004
I say for hardcore fans only because, this is not Metallica at thier best. For starters, I did not really dig "St. Anger." So, the song "Some Kind Of Monster" was not the reason I bought the album. I got it for the live tracks. Unfortunatly, I don't have a lot of live Metallica in my collection. I thought this would be cool and it was. Most of the songs I've not ever heard live, with the exception of seeing them in concert a couple of times. At least on this cd you don't get some of the same old tired tracks. I'm really sick of "Fade To Black, Enter Sandman, and Sanitarium." It was cool to hear some different tunes live. As far as performance goes, musically, they aren't too shabby. However, James Hetfield's vocals could have been a lot better. Is he feeling ... Read More:
