Although the feel of this soundtrack is very different than the latter three soundtracks (owing to the fact that it was composed by a different person), it nevertheless delivers the same haunting mood and signature world-music feel of the entire franchise of BSG soundtracks. Listening definitely invokes the first BSG miniseries in the mind's eye.

This CD, part of the soundtrack for Martin Scorsese's PBS series, showcases blues hits and singers from Robert Johnson and Son House to Robert Cray, Bonnie Raitt, Stevie Ray Vaughan, and the Allman Brothers. One can trace the evolution of blues from its raw beginnings to its more contemporary manifestations. As such, it is fun to listen to, although one can quarrel with the selections chosen for this single CD (there are other products available that are more inclusive). But I'm not quarreling about anything after having listened to this CD.

It starts right off with Robert Johnson singing "Cross Road Blues." It is always interesting listening to this artist, legend that he is. He sings with a raw blues voice and his characteristic guitar work. ... Read More:

This is the best TV soundtrack I have ever listened to. Every song on here is a winner and great whether you like the show or not. It helps, but isn't required which is something that can't be said about many soundtracks.

The mix of tracks on here are very diverse and even though the track listing initially seems a little off, trust me, it flows very well. Some of the highlights that should be mentioned are "We Used to Be Friends" which is amazingly simple yet complex at the same time. The very monotone, but awesome "I Hear The Bells" along with "I Know I Know I Know". I feel this CD is a great blend of music. The tracks vary from stirring martial themes to tranquil pieces and sensual vibes. Jeff Beal, in the liner notes, said that he only used instruments available in ancient Rome. He pointed out that we know little about the music that was played on these instruments. But the tracks meshed well with my perception of the events in the outstanding HBO series.
