The reason I gave this 3 CD Set 4 stars instead of 5? These recordings
were made before 'Stereo' came along. But, the engineers did a great job
of transfering (Re-mastering?) the songs to CD, and they sound very good.
Seventy-five classics by the greatest crooner of the 20th century.
Interested in 'Sinatra in Stereo'? You might also buy "The Reprise
Collection"-- it's ALL in stereo. Buy both-- you'll be glad you did.

CARLOS SANTANA is an excellent musician . THIS was the far better album of the year it lost to "SUPERSTITION" . the understated and incredibly tasteful guitarist RUSSELL MALONE . the miraculous arrangements of JOHNNY MANDEL . the sexiness and pitch perfect restraint of MS. KRALL'S vocal and piano contributions . LEWIS NASH or JEFF HAMILTON on drums . the song selection and programing of the material . the lifetime achievement award was SANTANA'S . the music is ours . the snapshot forever . the depth of this deep , sultry well will grow in stature . sans radio play . by word of mouth . just off the beaten path more traveled .

I'm an older guy and am transported to heaven when I hear a singer that understands the subtleties of this type of wonderful ballads. Simply can't believe this depth at this young age.

When I discussed the Ric Burns documentary about the old West with an Amerindian acquaintance, I complained that the film concentrated on the Lakota, to the exclusion of other peoples. My friend answered that, as the Lakota was the best known native American culture, that was a good place to start, and the audience would then move on to learn about other parts of the story.
I suppose the same is true of the documentary by Ric's brother Ken Burns, on the history of Jazz, on which this box set is based. It is heavy on Louis Armstrong and on the Big Band sound of the Swing era - probably the Jazz best known to the general public - but light in other areas, including the many, varied strands of Jazz in the last 30 years or so. There is a ... Read More:

The first thing I did when I received this in the mail was pop in the DVD ~ I have been a fan of Setzers since the Stray Cat days and have seen him play a few times. He is an amazing guitarist and knows how to put on one heck of a show, AND it's all captured on this dvd. The musicians behind him follow suit and are equally as gifted. These guys (and dolls) look like they are having the time of their life and it's contagious. The DVD features swingin' holiday favorites, but Setzer also ventures into some of his rockabilly tunes with Bernie Dresel on drums and John Hatton on bass, making for an outstanding trio performance.
This is a must have for your holiday library of music. The fact that you get this great DVD with the musical ... Read More:

This disc is packed with some of the greatest hits of the big band era (great set list) but the collection's title ("The Only Big Band CD You'll Ever Need") is terribly insulting. Why assume that, after hearing killer-diller tunes like these, that modern listeners wouldn't want to dig deeper and discover more music in this rich, rewarding vein? Reducing a decade-plus of astonishing musicianship to a cultural footnote unworthy of meaningful exploration is more than just insulting (to the artists of their era and the listeners in ours) it's downright depressing. If BMG thinks so little of the music they own, why put it out at all? Lease it to someone who cares. (Axton)
