Drummer Peter Erskine and trumpeter Tim Hagans, bandmates in the Stan Kenton Orchestra some three decades ago, reunite for a concert with Sweden's Norrbotten Big Band, for which Hagans serves as artistic director. This muscular band swings hard from first note to last, and plays with wit, passion and precision, not to mention power--these guys can match the energy and volume of any rock band out there. The audiophile recording captures every nuance beautifully. Check it out.

Keely Smith possesses a fantastic ability to sing so well that she could capture your attention at once and you would never want to stop listening to her. She could sing you the phone book; and when she was finished you would be applauding and begging for more. This excellent retrospective album gives us quite a bit of the best of Keely Smith. It has twenty eight wonderful tracks and at 78 minutes the CD is as jam packed with hits as any CD is ever going to be.
"All The Things You Are" opens the CD; Keely sings this perfectly without a superfluous note. Her voice is warm, rich and vibrant in a way that just couldn't be better. The strings and horns help the musical arrangement along although Keely's vocals remain squarely in the ... Read More:

This is a great album. It is great to see a younger modern singer perform these jazz standard types of songs with such quality, style, and a genuine feel. And what's more, he wrote a lot of them.

Finally out with some of my favorites from this band: "Spain" with Ed Xiques great soprano solo. "Dichotomy": Danny Stiles 1st Class trumpet, Watrous, and climaxed with tenor solo from Frank Perowsky. "Ayo" with Danny Stiles again on trumpet, Dick Hyman on synthesizer and Ed Soph on drums. Cool "Fourth Floor Walkup" (saw Bill play this tune with our local junior college jazz band in 1976-have the full recording of entire concert). I rate this better than the second album "Tiger Of San Pedro."
Release Date October 25, 1990
This is a great album with some of my favourite performances of all time: "All of me" and "Love me or leave me". Teddy's piano playing matches Lester style amazingly well.

Review by Ken Dryden, All Music Guide
The Hot Club of San Francisco is more than a tribute band re-creating the recordings of Django Reinhardt, Stéphane Grappelli and the Quintette du Hot Club de France; the group covers pieces from many different eras never performed by the group which inspired them. On their tenth CD, Yerba Buena Bounce, the Hot Club of San Francisco, which has identical instrumentation to the French group (lead guitar, violin, two rhythm guitars and a bass), leader Paul Mehling, violinist Evan Price and the rhythm section swing like mad in their updated treatment of the QHCF's speeding locomotive represented by "Mystery Pacific" and the brisk, chugging "Black and White." But they also successfully convert modern pop songs into gypsy ... Read More:

Definitely this double album is one of the best compilations of an artist. This double CD contains some of the best song recordings of Frank, and includes all of his best songs, in just the right price. "Something Stupid" sang with his daughter Nancy, was to me a very pleasant surprised, as i never heard this recording before. Seriously, people who are not fun of Sinatra or 60s music of this kind, did not complain listening to both CDs playing one after the other ;)

Mr. Erroll Garner was a very talented pianist. As I've said before, this man can groove with his hands (seemingly as if he had two left hands and a right hand!). Erroll was my inspiration (and still is, although he's no longer with us).
One point I failed to mention is that Mr. Garner loved to riddle his adoring fans by beginning a tune with an off-beat 60-second prelude. With this live concert album ("Concert By The Sea"), you can actually hear the audience chuckling! The man was a genius and played like one, too!
My favorites on this CD is ALL songs! I can't tune any of them off. They all deserve a 10-star on the scale.
Again, thanks to all the executives who (like me) treasure music by Mr. Erroll Garner and his trio/quartet. ... Read More:

always been a big fan of Brian Setzer. I bought this disc SOLELY based upon the reviews I read right here at Amazon. Thanks to all who reviewed before me. The reviews were right on the money, as this disc ROCKS, from beginning (Red Hot) to end (Gene & Eddie). THIS is what Amazon is all about. Thank you !!
