There are definitely some tracks I skip on this Christmas record. But it's well worth the purchase price just for the truly phenomenal rendition of "Sleigh Ride", easily the most raucous, terrific, wonderful version of that song I've ever heard. Other standouts include the interpretation of "Winter Weather," which is just dripping with sass, "Carolina Christmas" and "Hot Christmas", which are a blast, and "Indian Giver" which is a heck of a fun shot at yuletide blues. The downtempo numbers aren't my favorites, and frankly a few of them are just a little too much of a bummer if you're trying to be festive.

Anyway, though: the half of this album that hits is easily worth the purchase.

Another madcap collection - old favourites plus some I'd never heard before - so just proves you're never too old ! The lyrics are the highlights, with some very modern new age 'music' sounds, yeh I listen to classical as well, and this is better than the cacaphonic new compositions from that genre, at least I can sing along and get happy !

Great CD. My personal favorite from SNZ. An incredibly diverse assemblage of musical styles and influences. Complex arrangements and performances, but still manages to be melodic (it's very easy to catch yourself humming tunes from this CD out of no where).

I just hope that they can keep it up. The musical world desperately needs bands like this!

Ultra-Lounge, Vol. 2: Mambo Fever is a solid installment in this CD series of lounge music mostly from the 1950s and 1960s. The quality of the recordings is excellent; they've been polished up nicely. The artwork is wonderful; and don't forget to look for those drink recipes in the liner notes!

Don Swan & His Orchestra start things off with their cha cha version of "Hooray For Hollywood (Cha-Cha)." This really sounds great and it's still perfect for dancing with your sweetheart late at night in the privacy of your living room all alone. The melody gets a lot of strength from the drums and percussion, too. Jackie Davis and his musicians perform a lively rendition of Peggy Lee and David Barbour's "Mañana (Is Soon Enough For Me)." "When I Look in Your Eyes," by Canadian born jazz singer/pianist Diana Krall was released in 1999, with underlying orchestral arrangements by noted jazz composer/arranger Johnny Mandel. Krall recalls that, in her first conversation with Mandel, she told him that she was both a singer and a pianist. Mandel replied," Oh, so you're a hyphenate! Are you a singer-pianist or a pianist-singer?" The singer then confirms that her favorite singers have all played piano too: she lists Dinah Washington, Roberta Flack, Shirley Horn, Fats Waller, Andy Bay, and "especially" Carmen McRae: "ultimately" Nat King Cole.
