the mills bros origional recordings are warm and smooth and mellow and take you back to a time when songs had words that were kind and thoughtful. this cd has been up dated they dont sound the same. it sounds like they did voice overs and added a echo and back ground music to make the sound fresh but this has changed what made the mills bros so loved, there warm sound

god, in my 20's I used to listen to this album so much!
Ever the musical genius, Zappa shows us here how he treats jazz. Although at first hearing, it seems scrambled and jambled, every note of this masterpiece was written down and performed with precision.
Zappa shows us that one needs no chemical drugs to enter a "stoned" frame of mind. Just listen to this album, and appreciate Zappa's "Conceptual continuity."
anu Zappa fan probably will also be a Residents fan. Both know how to make comedic music with no words being spoken! Spike Jones would have been proud of Zappa and Waka Jawaka turns jazz on it's ear!

Until I attended his concert in LV, I didn't know this album existed -- fool is me! This is really an unique album for him but it's now my favorite. I wonder how many times you can play a CD before you wear it out!

Last Sunday's Grammy Awards Night gave me an emotional trigger to listen to this CD and appreciate its eternal charms! I was so delighted with the opening number -- Frank Sinatra and Alicia Keys' "digital duet" of "Learnin' The Blues." It was amazing and I love everything about it! The orchestral arrangement is simply grand. My heart just melted the moment Ol' Blue Eyes started singing and as always, he looked so slick and debonair. And surprisingly, I was impressed with Keys' outstanding performance, which is a showcase of her flawless phrasing, expansive vocal range and piano playing skills. I think singing the standards from Great American Songbook will truly enhanced the beauty of her vocal art. I hope someday she will record this music ... Read More:

The performances on this CD are uniformly great,
from the rockin' to the sultry.
Someone at Verve did a very good job selecting
the tracks and artists whose versions are on here.
I think Cole himself would dig them.
Release Date September 26, 2006
This is a good concert dvd, it has exciting arrangements from slow swing/blues to explosive tempos such as the Old Man River arrangement. As a drummer this is an incredible learning tool to watch and analyse the Great Sonny Payne drive the band with impecable time keeping and excentric showmanship which adds to the excitment. A must have for any drummer who loves Jazz

I was amazed at the clarity and fidelity of this CD. Artie Shaw was and is one of the finest clarinetists of any age. The song selection is great. Highly recommend this album.

It's an enigma for the ages how these two giants of entertainment, only managed to cross paths once for a 35 plus minute recording session during the 20th Century. What we get is a pure desert island disc. Oddly, Billy May arranges and conducts while the Duke tickles the ivory. May still manages to evoke that swaggering, cool, Ellington Big Band sound. Sinatra adapts himself perfectly to complement the Ellington sound. This meager production, remastered in 1999 of only eight well chosen songs shines in every way. For the most part the arrangements are slow, cool, and collective, featuring vivid detail in brass and highlighted soloists. Though this album is short by today's CD standards, all but the last selection are over four minutes. This allowing for more ... Read More:
