I have never seen this film, and all I know is what I have read. It sounds like it might be interesting, but I can't say. But this soundtrack, on the merits of the music alone, is an excellent cross-section of styles and genres circa 1969-70. The sound is clear and solid, a huge improvement on the original not-so-good sounding release. This is a purely personal observation, as my old copy was a store-bought cassette. It sounded alright, but it pales next to this reissue.
The material is a juxtaposition (real word?) of mostly psychedelic rock and old-style American country music; when it was still good. No chubby smiling wannabe with his black cowboy hat crooning for the droves of clueless masses, etc. No, this is the real thing. ... Read More:

Other reviews are ok to read. Some are BS though.
What quality issues are brought up are from people who grew up in the age of the CD and should try listening to a 45 (single) or a 33 (album) sometime while eating your Big Mac, then type.
And another thing - that complaint about the stereo version had a miscue and the mono didn't - was the way it was released in the US years ago. Get over it. Capitol execs know what's going on, the others at Capitol just stopped squeezing pimples a few years ago.
NOW - it's Beatles 101 class for you youngin's - FYI - and so there's no misunderstanding, I'm 'Classic_Rocker' - the reviewer and editor from years past when online meant sitting at the teletype 100 miles away from 'the computer'.

I have been the proud owner of this dual CD since 1994, when my first car had only a tape deck and I had to use one of those goofy converters with my diskman to listen to CDs. I think I wore the poor thing out. I also own the original rock opera written and performed by The Who, but it doesn't get the playtime that the Cast Album does. Why not? Because the women in this recording are phenomenal! I love speeding down the road screaming/singing "Acid Queen".
I will have to be honest though... as a play, Tommy is a bit lacking. You have to admit that the plot is a bit strange and often the character's actions leave the viewer scratching their head. I watched the touring cast in the late 90's and still have my piece of the mirror that fell from the ... Read More:

Overall, this seems to be the most hated album by any major rock band I can think of. After listening to 1980's "The Game," it hardly seems surprising that the band was moving into a more dance-oriented kind of music. This album also uses a lot more synthesizer, but Queen was certainly not alone in this in the '80s. "Staying Power," the album's opening track, immediately lets you know this is not the same Queen you were listening to in, say, 1974. The album is not without good old-fashioned rockers however, including Brian May's "Put Out the Fire." I also happen to like the simple message of love and acoustic guitar in "Calling All Girls," as well as the slinky "Cool Cat," which features Freddie singing falsetto throughout. And it does include at least one bona fide Queen ... Read More:

The Doors Waiting for the Sun is a really magnificent album that, for some reason or another, faces constant criticism. There's really nothing bad or even average about it to warrant negative ratings all the time! I'm not a huge fan of the Doors, but I know quality songwriting when I hear it, and this album has LOADS of creativity.
Many people hate "Hello, I Love You" for some reason. I think it's a great song that the 90's rock band Smash Mouth ripped off BIG time for their "Walkin' on the Sun" smash hit. Hmmm... that song title sounds awfully close to "Waiting for the Sun" doesn't it???
"Love Street" is a perfect ballad with brilliant piano soloing that gives the song a jazzy edge. "Summer's Almost Gone" is a psychedelic blues song that leads ... Read More:

You're probably already an Eagles fan if you're reading this. This review is about the construction of this boxed set edition, not the music. If amazon allowed half stars I'd give it a 3.5.
It's a good looking collection, with each CD sleeve duplicating the original vinyl album in great detail. The gatefold album covers are well made, but the inner and outer sleeves of the other discs are far too fragile. I'm sure they will start tearing, even though I take immaculate care of my music collection. Also, the textured white cover of _On the Border_ sits in between the dark _Desperado_ and textured dark _One of These Nights_, and the covers are rubbing off on each other.
The other drawback is that the text is mostly illegible because of the small size and the variety ... Read More:

Throughout the 1960's the Rolling Stones were basically a singles band who either felt compelled to or were urged by their manager to serve as the antithesis to the Beatles while simultaneously parodying their rivals' releases. Consider the sheer blatancy of "Their Satanic Majesties Request," the cover art of "Beggars Banquet" and, now, the title "Let It Bleed" juxtaposed with "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band," "The Beatles (aka the White Album)" and "Let It Be." Thankfully, with the Beatles' demise and Stones' manager Andrew Loog Oldham's departure, the group would begin to be more original until the late 1970's when they began to once again hop on the bandwagons of the day, be they punk, disco, etc. with the notable exception of the fantastic "Some Girls."

Works is a Pink Floyd complimation that was realesed in 1983 and contains songs of them from 1967-1973. The songs that represent the Syd Barrett era are, "Arnold Layne", and "See Emily Play". But beware the version of See Emily Play on here is a remix it sounds more lighter and has different drums and Arnold Layne also sounds a little different too hear the exact versions of these songs either get it off of Echoes or Relics or The Early Singles. One of these days also contains the Speak To Me beggining and Brain Damage has crowd noise at the beggining of it, But the real gem on this album is the song, "The Embryo", which only exists on this CD but really you could just download it off of iTunes and save tons of money instead of buying this CD, Buy it if you want
This CD is The Who at their best. All of the adapted Who songs from the original CD are great, especially "The Real Me". All of the mod hits on the CD are great, especially "High Heel Sneakers". This CD is nostalgia for me from when I first heard it in my early teens in the early eighties. I first heard this CD during the summer of 1980 at the Jersey shore in New Jersey, of course. The CD blew me away. I still listen to it to this day. It really takes me back to my younger days. If you are as big a Who fan as I am, you will love it. Don't forget to see the movie, it is great.
