Looking back at the 1970s, sometimes many forget how big the band Queen was. Even as Queen moved into the 1980s, while their popularity did slightly decline in the United States, it continued to be very high in Europe. Their performance at Live Aid is widely considered one of the greatest of all-time and their subsequent "Magic" tour is considered one of the all-time greatest concert tours. If it weren't for Freddie Mercury's death in 1992, we might still be talking about Queen being as big a band as the Beatles. When Queen released their 1973 self-titled debut album, it showed all of the signs of greatness to come. This album would show how the band embraced a "theatrical" feel to their music as well as embrace a sound that would evolve into ... Read More:

I am the Stones Authority. I make no apologies. I like this album. This album has some of the best tracks ever recorded by the Rolling Stones. It has a couple of their worst too. But there are four songs that make having it a must. "Citadel" - One of their best hard rock tunes and one of the best lyrics written about the modern urban experience. "2000 Man" - Again, a fantastic song that was thirty years ahead of its time, predicting that men would have love affairs with their computers. Anyone hear of Facebook, MySpace or YouTube? Fantastic and prescient lyrics. "She's A Rainbow" - Just a damn cool sounding song. Who has got a problem with that song? Get off the bus then! "2000 Light Years From Home" - That is a rock song, that is out there, it is intense. ... Read More:

MBB&B is a classic Who collection, commemorating the days when the Who were a singles band. If you want to know how great a collection it was/is, do some research and find the original review of the album in Rolling Stone. The reviewer was one Pete Townshend, and he'll set you straight on just how important this collection was/is.
Why is it still important? Well, God knows that there's no scarcity of Who "greatest hits" collections, but this was the first and by far the most necessary, as many of the singles hadn't been released on LP or were released on some shabby product (like Magic Bus). Furthermore, the LP is the only place you can find the extended version of Magic Bus. For some reason, this version was not used on the CD. A previous reviewer ... Read More:

When Queen released their 1973 self-titled debut album, it showed all of the signs of greatness to come. By 1977, Queen would ascend into the upper echelon of Rock with their sixth album "News of the World". This album would feature the monster hits of "We ... Read More:

This work would earn a 5-star rating for just one song, one of the greatest rock and roll songs ever--"(I can't get no) satisfaction." But there is a lot more. There are solid covers of songs by artists such as Otis Redding (e.g., "Mercy, Mercy"), Sam Cooke ("Good Times"), and Marvin Gaye ("Hitch Hike"). There are also early classics by Jagger-Richards, such as "Satisfaction," ""The Last Time," and "Play with Fire." And cool little songs such as "The Spider and the Fly" and "The Under Assistant West Coast Promotion Man". And remember that any song attributed to "Nanker Phelge" (such as the aforementioned "The Under Assistant. . .") is a Jagger-Richards composition.
Some representative works (that is, songs that I want to write about). . . .

While this might be a great collection of live songs comprising "The Wall" from Earl's Court, there is an unofficial video of one of the Earl's Court shows that is, IMHO, much more pleasing. Though imperfect, I have to believe that this show could be restored and officially released. It's clear that it was professionally filmed for some reason. Incidentally, though i don't know if they're credited on this CD, the Floyd had a complete backing band on this tour- a second guitar, bass player, drummer, and keyboard player. The power of some of the live songs is a result, in part, of the fact that there are, essentially, two bands playing the same song at the same time. Obviously, they've got the audio cleaned up well, if they would just clean up the video, we'd have a fantastic DVD release. ... Read More:

There are more good songs on this album than most bands write in their entire careers. I am quite partial to early Queen, and this is some of their better early work. If you like hard rock, this is as good as it gets.

I am the Stones Authority. Aftermath and Between The Buttons. Buy them together. That should be required. What an incredibly prolific period for the Stones and what great songs and albums - released within about 6 months of each other. "Paint It Black", "Lady Jane" and "Under My Thumb". Wow. Very cool. Then there are other great tracks like "Think", "Flight 505" and "I Am Waiting". At this point in a lot of band's careers they are starting to run a little thin on material, what is remarkable about this period and this work is that the Stones are actually just getting warmed up. A lot of band's would have been happy to point to such a period in their career as their high water mark. Again, the Stones were just warming up. Aftermath and Between the Buttons - two more examples of the depth and ... Read More:

This is arguably the best live album ever made containing the best of Deep Purple in their prime. It has great track selection and plays like a greatest hits album on steroids. I remember this was one of the first vinyl albums I purchased as a kid and I practically wore it out. Now digitally remastered my daughter and I love listening to this one in the car or at home. Higly recommended as one of the greatest albums of all time.

You don't want to get mixed into a lot of nonsense that people can't stop jabbing about, saying things like "THIS is what BRIAN JONES' stones sounded like," or "The REAL Rolling Stones." Don't listen to any of that snobbish nonsense :)
What you do want to do is buy this CD and enjoy it. It's a very enjoyable record, simply because all of the songs are quality rock music.
This is a really nice record. Put it in your stereo and rock out!
