I have all the Amon Tobin releases, and I have to say that this one is my favorite. At times it is raucous and hard (big furry head), at times it is beautiful and soft (at the end of the day), at times it is dark and haunting (bloodstone), and at times it makes you wonder how in the world the sounds are being generated... it is a great trip. I think some listeners might be a little caught up in the project concept, or are just unable to deal with a slightly different sound. Maybe others just don't like any of the softer stuff... probably the same ones that don't like Amon's jazzier tunes as well. It is a shame for them, cause they are missing out. Try to appreciate an artist taking risks and keeping his sound fresh, rather than lamenting ... Read More:

I remember listening to this on my folks' hi fi when I was growing up. It is as impressive as it was then and fun to listen to now.

I like Manha De Carnaval so much that I listened to Domingo, Nana Mouskouri, Carly Simon and Luis Miguel's versions borrowed from the libraries. I like the original song in track 6 by Luiz Bonfa. Track 8 guitar playing is also beautiful. Track 11 female vocal is wonderful, spontaneous and second to none. The sound quality is excellent.

This will probably end up being the best album of 2008. To me, it sounds like a fusion of Latin, dark Hungarian classical music, jazz, and many other elements. When it comes down to it, it's just damn good song writing. He doesn't hide behind any distortion or ambiance; every note is solid and in your face, since he has the right to proud of amazing composing skills.
Each song has a pungent, human quality to it. The mood of each song is very precise, but littered with an emotional instability. It's very easy to get into, even for someone who hates classical music. You can almost pinpoint the mood and story behind each song. Every song on this album has an amazing power, it's guaranteed to stimulate your mind.

A 10 CD box of always interesting, often great, music by Piazzolla- and at this price? Wow. Though recorded over different years, the sound quality, while not uniform, is always clear, and appears to be true stereo. The company that issued this also has a number of other bargain boxes of great jazz musicians- the others I have are excellent as well.

This album tops all others from these guys. Formerly known as CIAO in chile, a children's group, they changed their name to Kudai in 2001, kudai comes from the mapundung word meaning young workers, or kudaw. Nada es igual, Cicatrices, Lejos de aqui, disfraz, and morir de amor are ones to check out. The title Nadha is sanscrit for 'all of ones being' or straight from the heart, sound from deep within the soul. Meaning these songs are sincerely from their heart and made with everything they've got. It is a album you will not regret buying!

FWIW, I have jazz degrees from a couple of the best music schools in the US (that & $5 will get you a Cappucino at Starbucks). IMO, Eliane Elias can play, she "digs in", her time is great, & she can sing.
Eliane Elias may be my new jazz piano hero/heroine. At least amongst younger players. It's not that her playing is the best jazz piano playing in history; it's that she "grooves": maybe one of the funkiest, most time-keeping pianists ever. Maybe out of Horace Silver? Or Joe Sample?
And the audio quality on this "Red Book CD" is truly excellent. It sounds gorgeous on my "high end" audio system.
She's not going to put Fred Hersch, or Bud Powell, or K.J. out of business of course (but they're not singers/players, & I ... Read More:
