For the first time, I can honestly say that Krisiun has released 2 consecutive albums where not only is the music damn UNBELIEVABLY HEAVY, but it's also more varied (in other words not repetitive & boring) & the production was perfect! After hearing this CD, I think Krisiun might have made a better album than their last slice of death 'Assassination'...& that is saying a lot because that was a tough one for them to top! Brutal death at it's finest here folks!

Right at the dropping hour of grunge, this tasty sonic assault emerged, and it was good. VERY good. Sepultura was about as heavy as it got back in 1991, other than the then laboring in (mostly) obscurity, fledgling death, black and grind scenes...

Heavy, brutal, raw, primal, aggressive, antisocial, tribal, throbbing and pounding... nothing else in 1991 sounded anything like this. And it's still extremely good today. Most death metal has easily surpassed this disc in terms of sheer brutality, but Sepultura ain't far behind. I had never heard of Los Indios Tabajaras, but I love guitar music. After reading everyone's reviews and listening to song samples, I purchased "Serie Platino: 20 Exitos" and "Maria Elena/Always in My Heart." After listening to these albums, I decided to purchase "Best of Los Indios Tabajaras." I love them all, and although many of the songs are repeated on the other albums, I can't get enough of all three of these albums.

I saw Leny at de LaPataia Jazz Tour 2005 in Punta del Este. She is simply great. On the stage she is so warm! It's not only her music, she delivers stories and feelings between songs, in a way I can hardly describe. This CD is a bit different. More "classic" perhaps. After I bought the CD I was at first dissapointed, I was looking for something more like the show I had seen. (In fact I had bought another CD more like what I was looking for) However, I must admit I like this one much more every time I listen to it.

Narcotango is just different than others neotango producers like Bajofondo tango club or Tanghetto, even different from great compilations. Being in one of their concerts is a total experience where you listen a new concept, elements and that special touch of bandoneon mixed with delicious loops, bass and electric guitar, without forget all the power of drums.

Narcotango is something that I have never seen and much better than anything!!!!

i will focus on the brasil part in this review. as other reviewers have noted, joao was at his finest on some amoroso tracks but the production is unbearable at times.
the voices on brasil are familiar to anyone who is a fan of brazilian music: gilberto gil, caetano veloso, joao gilberto, and maria bethania are among the greatest superstars all time of brazilian music individually. and on this album they all come together to play joao gilberto's style of music. i'm not sure about bethania but gil and caetano were avid joao fans. however they had never tried to replicate his sound. tropicalia's musical influences certainly included joao but were nothing like his music. in this 1981 release, we here straight bossa nova. joao plays beautifully. the production at times ... Bossa Nova started in Brazil in the late `50s. The "First Generation" included Antonio Carlos (Tom) Jobim (1927-1994), Joao Gilberto and Vinicius de Moraes as their main artists. Their themes were composed focusing on "Love, Smiles & Flowers" and greatly influenced Latin America's music and even USA's jazz composers.

The music of the present CD was recorded in 1970 when Bossa Nova was already firmly mixing with Jazz and conquering a huge melodic space at USA.
The original recording of "Tide" was done at Van Gelder studios at the same time with "Stone Flower" employing the same instrumentalists; actually a subset of them for "Stone Flower".
