This is a good compilation of little seen and forgotten films from way back which should please nostalgia buffs. Quite a number of them, however, don't really qualify as being musicals, such as "Breakfast in Hollywood," which contains only a couple of songs sung on a real life radio show back in the 40s the movie was made to promote. Overall, I recommend it, as it contains early films from stars such as Bing Crosby and Lena Horne, along with an interesting array of old black musicals.

The compilation is very reminiscent of the variety of music we heard on the show--kinda quirky and upbeat. The theme song and a few other distinct tracks from the show remind me how much I enjoyed watching the series. It's a great soundtrack!

I bought this CD years ago and used the Sting version of the "Windmills of your Mind" at my wedding. I think the DJ walked away with my cd and I always wanted to buy a new one. I am enjoying it again now!!! I've watched the movie many many times and the cd is just as ageless...

I ACTUALLY GREW UP WATCHING THIS MOVIE AND TO THIS DAY STILL OWN IT. THE MOST MEMORABLE SCENES WERE ALWAYS THE ONES WITH THE SONGS. THE TUNES WERE ALWAYS SO CATCHY AND MY LITTLE SISTER AND I WOULD SING THEM ALL THE TIME. IT WASNT TILL RECENTLY DID I FIND THE SOUNDTRACK AND IT TOOK ME RIGHT BACK TO WHEN I WAS YOUNGER. IT WAS ALMOST AS THOUGH I FOUND A LONG LOST LOVE. I LOVE MUSIC SO LISTENING TO THIS PARTICULAR KIND OF MUSIC REALLY SOOTHES ME AND I SHARE IT WITH OTHERS AND IT SO HAPPENS THEY GET HOOKED AS WELL!

I have always loved this musical. Yul Bryner as the "King" was wonderful. I have never been able to picture anyone but him in this roll. When I listen to the music I can picture him on the stage performing the songs and creating the role, since I had the opportunity to see him do so on the stage. This is one of my favorite CD's and I listen to it often.

This music is absolutely superb. John Barry is a freakin' genius. This soundtrack detours away from "typical" western music into something magical. A suggestion for all listeners -- take your CD player, mp3, what have you, and walk around town with these heart-wrenching songs playing in your ears. The city will melt away around you and the land will be frontier once more...seventy-six minutes of blissful, hopeful heaven. I caught myself staring at an empty lot whose building had been ripped out seven months ago. The weeds were breaking ground in a spot where no life had sprouted for nearly thirteen years. Coupled to the sounds of "Fire Dance", the sight almost made me cry.
