I'm a fan of Elfman and all, and I'm glad he decided to return to his old-school sound, but come on, where are the themes? This cd is so hard to listen to because the music just sounds like random noise to me. There's nothing tying it together. Marco Beltrami's score for the first film was a lot better than this mess.

On a side note, the sound quality is excellent. But that's about it.

I absolutely LOVE this CD and play it ten times a day. It is exciting, enthralling, magical, amazing, powerful, down right awesome music! I love the movie, but somehow the music is WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY better. Each song is thought out perfectly and sung beautifully. I love it! Buy it, you won't regret it! When I play it, my brothers always come to tell me to turn it down because I'm playing it so loud since it seems pitiful when it's sung low. The music blasts out and makes me laugh and sing along, my heart thumping with excitement. The last song, when Spirit comes home to meet his dear herd and loving mother again, the I WILL ALWAYS RETURN song is A GAZILLION MILLION stars out of five. Tarantino always knows how to put a great soundtrack together for his movies and this one is no exception. He consistently introduces the listener to great music that they may have not heard otherwise. Although extremely ecclectic, just about every song seems to compliment each other instead of clashing. The only downside of this particular collection is the out-of-place contribution by The RZA with his silly "Ode to Oren Ishii." If it wasn't for this single track, then the CD would deserve 5 stars.

A collection of mostly obscure(to me) movies, most of which are good quality, and quite entertaining. All are musicals, and some feature artists who were just starting out back then. A good number of the movies are black and white, but oddly , this does not diminish the enjoyment. A lot of bang for the buck!

I chose Fiddler for my students' spring musical, and always like to get the original cast recording to help give me an idea of the original idea for the pieces in the show. This recording definitely delivers, and the interview with Sheldon Harnick at the end is an extra treat. Awesome CD!

As fan of the scores by Goldsmith and Silvestri for the first and second part of this trilogy, I had great expectations for the work of Randy Edelman. The fact that his carreer has no real success ( except his participation to Trevor Jones' Last of the Mohicans and the well known theme from Dragon's Heart )affraid when his name was announced, but I bought this CD with some hope... and was not disapointed ! OK, he didn't make an epic theme full of percussions, but un lyrical adventure score, pursuing the evolution of the franchise's soundtrack that Silvestri started with tracks like "Sandcastles" or "Medjei Commanders" in Mummy Returns.
