This is a great CD MADLIB definitely bridges the old with the new without taking anything from the classics. Definitely a great purchase.
Release Date June 29, 2004
This cd was not what I expected. Poorly engineered and lackluster performances by two Hammond B-3 giants. I had the album years ago, so maybe my tastes have changed.
Release Date April 04, 1990
This is a terrific album and really is in the top 5 of Grant Green albums. Elvin Jones's polyrhythmic madness amazes me and Green is an unsung jazz guitar virtuoso.
Trouble is, its like an outcast. Its not been newly remastered, it still retains the old Blue Note packaging and its not part of the exclusive Rudy Van Gelder series which it must be part of! Some would say thats good, others not, and it still has a good sound nonetheless but it just feels old and left behind.
Thats my only complaint: the packaging isn't new but it doesn't matter. The music is fantastic! Get it if you like really cool tunes, jazz guitar or just jazz in general!
Release Date October 15, 1991
This is as good as music gets. The first CD is an introductory one, with some dated material, but once you get beyond the 40's, every song is a winner. This contains several Greatest Hits sets all in one place. Just brilliant stuff, to which I'd give my highest recommendation.

Update on song titles, the first track is the extended version of Doing It To Death(We Gonna Have a Funky Good Time!!!)Hope this helps.
Great CD!!!!

Blue Note's got the artists, so this album is a logical extension of their catalog. Many of these artists and songs are classics in their own right and deserve attention. For myself, I have a tendency to use these "best of" compendiums to find something I think I would like to buy, which I then usually do go out and get. Eventually, I no longer have to return to the "best of" collection, but this one I do. Sometimes you just don't want to hear all Herbie Hancock or Kenny Burrell, in which case, it's nice to use this compilation to get a "dose" and then move on. I especially like "Cantaloop", which does a jazz classic with some funky cutovers and mixing to make a modern jazz/rap classic. Very neat. Serious jazz listeners will not have much use for this collection, ... Read More:

I just finished listening to this great album again I can't recommend it highly enough! If you're a Masekela fan and you haven't heard this album, you need to. It's that good! There is a unique sound and special quality to these South African melodies. A depth and beauty that will be appreciated by even the casual listener. MVP honors go to pianist Larry Willis whose playing on acoustic and electric piano is superb throughout this 1972 session. This very fine instrumental music should have a broad appeal for jazz, world, and soul music fans alike. Dudu Pukwana is on alto sax, Eddie Gomez on bass, and Makhaya Ntshoko on drums. A great re-issue!
Release Date September 26, 2006
This is full of excellent funk. I'm going to use it as a bed for my guitar woodshedding at home. By the way, Will Bernard's guitar playing is really fine.

Most of the Cannonball Adderley Quintet's best-known recordings were recorded live, or pretended to be. This, the Quintet's 2nd album, is an exception. As a result, it doesn't match the hot intensity of their best live recordings. That said, it has its own charms.
It took a while for the group to settle on a pianist - Bobby Timmons lasted for only one-and-a-half albums, and is replaced by bebop specialist Barry Harris on four tracks.
The album is best known for Nat Adderley's "Work Song" and Timmons's "Dat Dere". "Work Song" gets a nice runthrough here, but is a pale shadow of later live versions. It's also worth highlighting Duke Pearson's "Jeannine", one of the best performances on this album.
In general I favor this group's live work, but ... Read More:
