When I first listened to this album, I think it was back in 1987, it was a blow of joy for my ears, a new style, a new very creative way of playing acoustic guitar. Hedges use of harmonics and deep and low notes creates a unique experience for the listener. Great album, great player.

One of the best New Age recordings ever done. Every track compliments the one before it to create a landscape of beautiful sounds that relax and soothe you to your every muscle and bone!
Release Date January 27, 1998
A few weak tracks, but some real gems on here all performed on Taylor Acoustic Guitars. Steve Stevens (from Billy Idol) plays a great flamenco on Sadhana. Clint Black does a fine version of The Claw. And Amy Grant and Vince Vaughn perform a moving How Great Thou Art. Characterizing it as "New Age" is a bit unfair. Just some really good acoustic guitar performances from a good collection of artists including the late Michael Hedges and William Ackerman.

In one of those rare moments in life, my mother actually introduced me to George Winston's music when I was in high school. Most of the music I listened to at the time was metal and punk music. George Winston was an antithesis to everything I listened to still his music was very relaxing to listen to. DECEMBER is easily my favorite Winston cd.I like that the music was just George playing the piano. His music isn't bogged down by other instruments which would have easily drowned out his piano playing. I love listening to DECEMBER at any time of the year although there are some Christmas carols. I find George's delicate piano melodies quite relaxing. No matter how old DECEMBER is, the music never gets old with me. I still love the cd after all these years.

I'm very happy with this CD...I get bored very quickly with the same yoga music and this is a great addition to my collection. I'm even listening to it on MP3 player because it's beautiful and relaxing.

If you're a fan of great acoustic guitar, this is a CD for you. Turn it up and listen to fabulous performances and fretwork, especially if you are a guitar player. It's also great to have as background music at a dinner party. I've had so many friends ask; "Who is that playing guitar?" It truely is a "best of" CD. One to keep at the front of your collection.

This is one of my favorite albums. The music is, in my opinion, excellently chosen. Some compilation CDs have awkward transitions between artists. On this album, the songs are arranged in a very pleasing order. You can listen and appreciate the different styles of the artists without feeling like you are getting pulled in different directions. The best way I can describe it is to write that it is like reading an excellently chosen book of short stories.
This album is fabulous for artistic inspiration. It is beautiful without being imposing. As a teacher of English, I often look for music that will inspire my students to write without distracting them. For the past four years, this CD has been one that my students have enjoyed listening to while they work.

My qualifications to critique these, Bream's solo Dowland (lute) and first solo Bach (guitar) albums on the Westminster label, are limited: I torture a classical guitar for one hour each morning before work, and listen to classical music throughout the day. Bream playing the lute sounds much like Bream playing the guitar (he uses his nails), though of course the timbre of the lute is different. These mono recordings sound great; my teacher, who is world-class, rates the Chaconne the best he's ever heard. However, the Golden Age Singers, singing away-oh on the second half of the Dowland disc and the first half of the Bach disc, sound old fashioned to me, like Laurence Olivier as Richard III.
