This CD is summer-time cool. Cool like an ice cream cone slowly drippin' hazy licking vanilla. This is cool like the other side of the pillow as a summer time night breeze blows through the window. This is dandelion seed floating through thick air of rising heat cool. This is George Winston within his element creating auditory pictures from the core of the seasons cool.
This CD is baby sleeping in the crib, mobile slowly turning cranking out lullaby cool. This is eyes closed clouds floating shifting across the sky under the shade of a sycamore cool. This CD is summer-time cool.

This is the first album of Philip Glass music I've ever purchased and it quickly found its way onto my "most played" list. Michael Riesman's soulful rendition of this soundtrack from THE HOURS has a timeless appeal that, unlike a lot of music, works both at the earliest part of the day as "inspiration music" and at the end of the day as "tired, reflection music." What's more, the piano solos beautifully use repetition, coming at you in waves that echo each other and speak to each other at the same time. I love to write by it, and have even brought it in to my classroom so the kids can write by it. After initial eye-rolling, a few have furtively asked for the music's title and composer. What higher compliment than that, when a 13-year-old is ... Read More:

Like many, I bemoan the fact that Martha Argerich hasn't been doing any solo recitals or making any solo recordings for quite sometime now. In fact, she has eschewed the recording studio altogether, preferring to release only live concerto & chamber recordings. We can, however, take great solace in the fact that these live recordings, particularly those from the Lugano Festival, have been absolutely brilliant, this present release being no exception. These performances were recorded at the 2006 edition of the festival, where we hear Argerich at her dazzling best. The Shostakovich Piano Concerto #1 finds the virtuoso pianist offering a stunning performance of this challenging Russian masterpiece, with able accompaniment given by the Orchestra Della ... Terence Yallop and the team at Real Music have once again assembled a stellar compilation album, this time featuring pianists from their own roster of artists as well as selections from a few independents. Eleven of the fourteen tracks are from previously-released albums, but the independent artists (most notably George Skaroulis and Frederic Delarue) may be new to many listeners and will be a treat to discover (both are among my favorite artists!). It should probably be noted that none of the tracks are strictly solo piano, but all feature the piano as the primary instrument. The CD includes two tracks each from David London, Paul Machlis, Bernward Koch (both new compositions), and the wonderful Kevin Kern ("The Winding Path" is one of his most beautiful compositions, ... I have wanted this recording ever since i saw the series on the BBC TELEVISION. It is an excellent cd which gives the feeling of joy and sadness that the native american indians experienced. IT is both spiritual and uplifting as well and a wonderful joy to listen to

I am a lover of classical music from my earliest days. I play the piano and have played in high school bands and briefly a college ensemble as a bassonist. Just a two Christmases ago I discovered Windhill's Christmas collection and fell in love with the different arrangements that are not traditional. I enjoy the jazz elements that weave through the classical. Music from Windhill requires a musically mature and open mind. Good Stuff!!!

These are not really the traditional arrangements you may be expecting. I have really enjoyed this album over the last couple of Christmas seasons. It is a great CD to have playing in the background while you are entertaining guests or enjoying other holiday activities. It's a great stand alone album for when you want to get lost in the music but also works well for ambiance when you don't want the music to be the main point of focus. This has some old favorites, some new spins on old favorites and some new surprises.

My family and I love all of the Winter Solstice cds but far and away III is the best of the bunch. Songs like "In the Bleak Midwinter" and "Snow is Lightly Falling" are so simple and haunting and stir a soul-recognition of this time of year that few other songs can match. We start playing it in late November and continue right thru to early spring. We will have to replace it soon as we are wearing it out. I cannot imagine December without it.
