I love the easy flow and ambience of the fine playing here. Never has Cooder sounded better to my ear than on this one. And Bhatt is magnificent. I've been listening to this session for over ten years and still have it close, ready-to-hand, in my truck console.

A passionate voice that sounds like sandpaper and glass combine with nimble slide guitar make Blind Willie Johnson one of the greatest of all bluesmen. The review below, if anything, is too meek--Blind Willie Johnson's music blows the pants off anything Robert Johnson ever did. The only reason I can think Robert gets so much attention is because Eric Clapton never listened to real blues.
The only negative I can think of is that he duets with a female singer on some of the tracks, and it detracts from the overall performance. The man was a phenomenal singer, why ruin it by throwing in another voice?

You know if Johnny did't exist you would have to think he was a work of fiction cooked up in some promoters mind in the late 60's high powered Blues Boom. Johnny was certainly in the ritht place at the right time. The man was the real deal with a depth of talent rarely seen...and he was well versed in a lot of music styles besides the blues and thats what sets JW apart from the crowd--besides being a 6' albino from Texas. All in all this is a great collection of songs from an American Treasure..He dam well should be!!

I was introduce to the Allman Brothers at an early age, as my parents are hippies. I'm not, though, however, I was lucky to have them as a musical influence on me. This album tops them all in my book. No group will ever be able to compose something like this ever again, and I think its this fact that is leads some people to not like it. The Allman Brothers really set the bar in the early 70's for future bands. They still tour today, but without Berry, Dickie, and most of all the greatest guitarist that ever lived, Duane Allman. Has it been 25 years already? Damn! Despite several albums prior to this one, Bad to the Bone is the one that put Thorogood and company on the map. It was an unlikely success too because the group really defied what was hot at the time. No one else was delivering dirty bar band blues like Thorogood. No one else was crafting two and three chord progressions that made you want to pound down the beers and fight either. The album's title track is legendary, but the album is so much more than that.
