Imagine, it is 1931 and Robert Johnson comes home to Robert Lockwood Jr.'s home in Helena bringing a young man who calls himself "W. M." (actually, if you pushed him young Alex "Rice" Miller would have told you that he was "Willie Miller" actually his brother's name. Robert, Robert Jr. and Sonny Boy live on the Helena, Arkansas side of the Mississippi River. By the late 1930s W. M. now calling himself "Sonny Boy" and Robert Jr. are playing electric guitar and harmonica through car radios and juke boxes. Later they would call it "Chicago Blues." In 1941, Sonny Boy began a radio show on a new radio station KFFA in Helena and soon invited the now recording artist Robert Lockwood Jr. to join him. King Biscuit Time took the delta by storm as it was ... Read More:

On this album, Robert Nighthawk makes his guitar almost sound human, it sounds as if it is crying. His voice is smooth as he effortlessly blends the music and his voice together.
I especially love how he blends Annie Lee Blues and Sweet Black Angel into one smooth song. You can't tell where one ends and the other one begins. This album shows why he should have made it big.
Juke Medley is one big jam session, the musicians played well together and make this album worth buying. Mama Talk to your Daughter with J.B. Lenoir on lead is very good.
The harmonica of Mr. Carey Bell is good too. This album is worth buying.

This album is a gem--prior to the advent of CDs, I think I wore out 5 or 6 copies of this album on vinyl, and I've kept them all--even the old, worn-out ones. The Allman Brothers Band are often compared with the Dead, but at their best, IMO, they were far better--tighter, more disciplined, even while they were playing "out there." Unlike the Dead's jams, which often seemed chaotic and pointless, under Duane's leadership, the Allman Brothers' jams were more like controlled fire. As good as the rest of the tracks on Eat A Peach are, the second half of the Mountain Jam is for me, the perfect display of Duane Allman's compositional and melodic genius on guitar. After Berry Oakley's bass solo leads into the entire group coming together, Duane lays down ... Read More:

He was born Booker T. Washington White (Bukka became his name due to a mistake in one of his recording sessions many years later) in 1909, and had a career lasting until 1977. His first recording session was in 1930; he didn't make much of an impression since he did not record anything else until 1937. This CD features his early recordings, made in 1930, 1937, 1939, and 1940.
The liner notes identify him as one of the early greats, the end of the line of blues players originating with Charley Patton and Son House (with Tommy Johnson thrown in for good measure). From this early generation came later well know blues players such as Robert Johnson and Muddy Waters.
Anyhow, what about his craft and his art? Three cuts illustrate: ... Read More:

Well, this is it. Unless you own the very pricey Sun box set on Bear Family, you'll want to purchase this 3-disc compilation if you are a blues lover and the "Sun Sound" rings your bell. This set is an absolute bargain and it contains most of the best blues titles that Sam Phillips ever recorded. Yup, it's all here; Big Walter Horton's "In the Mood", and "Easy" are in the desert island top 10 for blues harp instrumentals. Little Milton Campbell can be heard doing a respectable imitation of early B.B. King, and Little Jr. Parker's perfect voice is not to be missed. Other highlights are the great Earl Zebedee Hooker - King of the slide guitarists - performing some very rare tracks in the Robert Nighthawk mould plus Rufus Thomas ... Read More:

I just bought this CD after being blown away seeing him play live this weekend. "One of the most heartfelt dynamic forces of forces of traditional blues on the scene today" Bob Corritore. I can't stop listening to it!!!
Release Date June 12, 1995
I first bought Dave Hole "THE LIVE ONE". LOVED IT! So I
couldn't wait to hear some more. Well this was my 2nd choice.
All I can say is, it's a good thing he can play such good slide
cause he sure can't sing, and it sounds to country, and I HATE
COUNTRY MUSIC! SO, if you've not heard any of his music, don't
waste anymore time, and get "THE LIVE ONE". IT ROCKS!!
Release Date March 20, 2002
This collection is much better than "The Complete Recordings." I don't need two takes of the same song. This CD includes only the best version of each song, and I agree with their selections.

Johnny Winter has been a favorite of mine since I started learning how to play guitar in the late 1970's and this album has some great guitar work on it. My favorite track has to be Talk is Cheap. It's got a great rhythm section and great guitar work from Winter. There are other noteworthy songs including The Crawl, Sittin' in the Jailhouse & Rollin' Tumblin' but Talk is Cheap has made this one of my top Winter selections for years. It does not equal the Alligator releases but has good energy. Difficult to find in modern formats though.
